EXACTLY. I love my '97, but c'mon...

Finally, cost shouldn't even be a factor-LS1 cars are almost as dirt cheap as their LT1 predecessors...

Well I drove a H/C/I 98 for 2 1/2 years w/o a single prob so that is BS and many will back me up. And at least my temp guage is not a dumbass guage... 01-02's are a little better because they come with beter rodbolts and a LS6 intake but if you are gonna mod like me that all goes anyway...

Seriously I had a LT1 car and the Opti can be such a PIA and the LS motors are such a HUGE leap in technology I would never consider an LT car again...

Plus even considering miles 9K is high IMO...

Yes to this post. If ur gonna spend 9k, go LS1.

Funny thing tho, everyone always talks about the opti, and never once in my cars 3 years did I mess with the opti. I had the engine out twice and rebuilt it once an the opti never gave me a lick of trouble. Pure luck I suppose?

98's are not bad at all i have beat mine to death for years and never had a single problem, and no matter what an LS1 is better than an LT1 regardless of the year imo

I was in ur same shoes last year and i bought an lt1 for very cheap. I personally think they look and sound better than an ls1 and its been a lot of fun; but if you do get the lt1, ur always gonna wonder what life would be like if you had waited and gotten the ls1...

For that low of miles 9K would be good.. The LT1's are getter rare, especially the factory WS6.... I have 115K on my 97 LT1 and have never had any problems with the Opti ... Of course when it rains i don't try to hit every water puddle either. Believe if you get the Lt1 or ls1 you will love both..
I do

LS1 hands down. My 94 Z had a lot of problems with the Optispark. There is absolutely no reason to go LT1 over LS1, especially if you're going to spend 9K.

around here clean lt1 cars go for $3-5k most of the time

$10k for one is straight up wasting money...that's more than clean ls1 cars sell for these days

This shouldnt even be a debate. LS1 hands down!! I have owned both and i wouldnt drive another lt1 if my life depended on it. Horrible cooling systems, optijunk. I had the mods in my sig and was within half car length with a exhaust only 2000 ws6. I sold my lt and wouldnt ever go back.

The lt1 is almost as capable as the ls1 in the right hands! The opti does blow ***, but thanks to efi connection, you can run the lt1 with the ls1 pcm/coils!! That ws6 is rare, if you could score it for the right price then do it... but for 9k, get a ls car!

Its foolish to pay 9k for a LT1 even if its a rare 97 ws6.

I would rather have a '99-'02 LS1 than an LT1. The car looks better and has more potential. I would avoid '98 model year since it is a hybrid of parts from the earlier car and later car. You will be limited to what parts fit the car and are compatible.

It wasn't FAST, and I always wanted an LS1, but it ran just fine considering I paid 3k for it...

I will have an 01SS shortly(waiting on a few things for the seller to do) and will be glad to have it, but for cheap and LT1 car can run... You are just starting out on platform of about 25hp less
True statement I dont know how the lt1 was modded. But it would take a lot of mods for an lt1 to keep up with an ls1.

THIS. Optispark sucks *****. I live in Maine, and everyone of these that comes in needs a cap and rotor. And the cap screws break every time and you need a distributor. An LT1 is a 350 truck engine with aluminum heads and some electronic ideas that GM thought was great at the time. Go with the LS1!

After being hard-headed and not listening to a bunch of folks warning me about the LT1 (which I bought), and spending a bunch of $$$ to just keep it running, I'm trading my LT1 tomorrow for a LS1. Hopefully I'll finally be able to wash or drive my NEW car in the rain without worry.

BTW, can someone comment on the problem with 1998 LS1s, other than it was the first year in the Camaro?
