LS1 Knocking when cold...normal?
also running synthetic with todays engine designs some oil usage is normal.not alot.but some.
piston slap and oil usage isnt exclusive to ls1s either.many engines from other carmakers have these symptoms and they still run fine.
harmless? Yeah i guess kinda like rod knock, its harmless, until something breaks apart.
We drove this truck with a loud knock for a long *** time. Till it threw a rod lol.
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
And a quart of oil every 3000 miles.
your dealer is a moron....
carbon build up.... hahahahaaaaahhahahaaa...walk up to him point in his face and laugh....
what exactly is he going to soak it in???
he wants 190 bucks and your car to take his gf out on the town in a nice car
if your burning up oil it could be anything from piston rings to gaskits ....
pay 25 bucks to get a REAL mechanic to go with you to your dealer ...
tell him why he's full of it and make him fix your car ....
piston slap is common in most cars at cold start up when they have a c/r of 10/1 or better...
i dont know why but its what i have seen...
i would love to know how or why anyone thinks it is ruining the motor...
mine slaps at cold start
doesn't use a drop of oil in 2500 miles
have had oil test done several time (on my mobil one) and it always gets high marks.
i drag it and drive hard...
so what exactly should i be worryed about it breaking for???
should i be concerned that it makes a REALLY loud howling noise at WOT when i have the cut out open??? lol...
only 27k on my 2001 6spdLooking into a new long block
THAT is not normal at all...
27k you are still under warrenty.... make them pay to have that fixed...
yours has something wronge...
have you checked your valve lash?
or auto tapped it?
you are either running way lean.
using cheap gas.
or your valve train aint holding up...
either way get it fixed asap
burning that much oil too... could be bad pistin ring?
how do you know it uses 1 quart in 5000 miles?
your not going 5000 between changes are you?
or you have a 2 cycle motor that uses oil gas mix
the reason ppl are concerned is burning oil is not the problem.. its a simptom(spelling?) and it is a simptom of bad stuff...
worn or damaged piston rings valve stem rings ect ect ect...
I'm thinking a new long block is order next year.
BTW In CALI the gas does suck. 91 octane is the best you get here.
