Default 98 trans am what mods to get

Hello, Ive posted in here before about procharger and cams, but I want to get everything in the table and see what is the best option.

1998 Trans am(just bought)
Auto trans
Bone stock
103,000 miles on it.
Shifts great and carfax has had 0 problems at all with this car.
I want it to be a street car, with power to take on the new 5.0's and the 2010 SS, and vettes as well.
I def. want to hit mid 11's or a little lower with the car.

I have $10,000, so with what exhaust, heads cam stall supporting mods would be the best to do.

Can the tranny and the rearend with 103,000 on it be able to hold a 11 second car?

I dont want to put cheap parts in the car, but i def want to be noticed in it, so the louder the better.

Thanks

longtubes, true duels.... what kind of power do you want to make? The rule of thumb is, the faster you get air in... and the faster you get it out...... the faster you go. 10 grand is a good amount of money to play with. If i had that, i would do longtube headers, true duel exhaust and maybe a new short block , like a 402 or something

I agree with the exhaust. Get you some good long tubes and follow it with true duals. Do all your bolt ons. Lid, get an intake (LS6 or Fast), aftermarket throttle body or port/polish your stock one. Also research free mods and do most if not all of them. They don't net a whole lot, but together they are worth it IMO. Get gears and a stall, very worth it in an automatic car. But really just let us know what you want to do. Do you want to stick with the stock motor, no swap? If so do everything i listed and you'll still have plenty of money left over for other upgrades as well. Just get full bolt ons, gears, and stall, and go from there. That's a good starting ground.

I want to stick with the stock motor, I was looking at getting a D1SC procharger but with all the parts needed like new trans new rear forged internals idk how much that would cost to do all of that. I know the d1 alone is 6,300 i think the one from brute speed and the trans and rear about 4500 there.

do you want force induction or run all motor? I would do PRC 215cc heads, LS6 intake manifold, slp lid w k&n filter, P&P stock TB, ARH LT 1 7/8 headers with dual cut outs on y pipe, anytype of good flowing cat-back, Built trans stock one wont last long after bolt on mods and deff wont hold for 11sec pass so FLT, performabuilt, RPM check them out for trans you could get a deal on a FLT trans and YANK converter thats what i would run for a converter, for cam get a cam up on what you want to run for setup nitrous, turbo, sc etc theres all kinds of cams out there for our cars. Your rear end would be fine just change your fluids or get a 12 bolt with gearing of your choice and get a really good tune should see some good et times also you will need tires might want to look into that and maybe some spray....

With $10k... I would do the following:

Longtube headers and true duals
Lid and filter
90mm TB & FAST 90 Intake
Heads and Cam
Stall
12bolt or 9" rear and gears
Drag radials
New tune from a reputable tuner

If you have anything leftover I'd add a 100 shot and be done with it.

Regardless, do some research on everything before you buy it. There's enough info on here to find out what works and what doesn't before you spend your $$$.

Let us know what you go with.

Ok I think I have an idea of what im going to do.

Torquer v.2 camshaft with a 112 lsa.(I want it choppy)
PRC 215cc Heads
LS6 Intake
3000-3400 Stall
3.73 gearing in a 9" or 12 bolt..I heard 12 bolts whine when hard launching them at high rpms so going more towards a 9" even if it robs me of more hp I want it to last.
True Duals
American racing headers or Texas speed LT's
along with valvesprings, lifters, timing chain, oil pump
underdrive pulley
FLT level 4 trans
nitrous is a big maybe not sure bout that motor has 103k on the clock.

Anyone have an idea of what kind of power this will make with no nitrous? It through an auto.

Sound pretty good?

I'm a total noob when it comes to heads and cam i had a 2000 t/a 2 months ago procharged flt trans and 4:10 gearing and it was awesome. but heads and cam I appreciate everyones help with this, and any other suggestions please let me know.

Forget the LS6 intake. There seems to be FAST 90/90 setups in the classifieds every week or so. There's nothing wrong with used performance parts from reputable members with positive feedback. You can save yourself some decent $$$ if you keep an eye on that section.

Don't forget the tune... it's gonna be 100% necessary for your mods especially since its an A4. Are you doing the labor or are you going to take it to a shop?

I am not gonna do this myself, i want it done right, im probably going to take it to speed inc they are about an hour from me. Iv'e been hearing different things from people to go with ls6 intake and ported throttle body, and go with 90/90 setup.

I own a 99 Trans Am and am running mid 12's with just a few grand into the car for bolt-ons. Based on my experience thus far, I would suggest:

1. Stall (Circle D, Yank, etc) - 3200 to 4000 based on goals and use
2. Transmission Cooler & Shift Kit
3. Kooks Longtubes to True Duals
4. LS6 Intake/TB (good up to ~600hp by my understanding) or Fast 90/90
5. Lid, 3x3 Ferco, K&N
6. 9" Rear with 3.73 gears
7. Subframe Connectors
8. Strano Springs & Koni Shocks
9. AFR 205's
10. Custom Grind Cam
11. Ported LS6 OP
12. Weight reduction (K member, LCA, etc)
13. Custom Tune by a pro

Depending on what H/C combo you go with, you may need to upgrade your fuel system, and you'll need springs, etc - it'll add up quickly. I'd talk to Patrick G, Texas Speed, or another sponsor and let them really focus on your ultimate goals and help you piece together the perfect package that fits your budget.

Again - just my .02 - there's a ton of ways to skin a cat, and a ton of ways to build an LS1.

dana 60
DRs
4l80e from jake
4000 stall
pistons and rods
fast intake
nitrous
Bosch 044
i would say at least 42lb injectors
tune

u can get most off it used for a great deal and consistent 11s shouldn't be a problem

i have 130K+ spray a 80 dry, i run 12.6 with street tires, stock everything except 3.73 rear, LTs, LS6, lid. Car could run mid to high 11s no sweat with DRs, but i'm afraid of the 4l60 and 10bolt.

you will need to beef up your tranny, there are some sales on good trannys in the sponsor section.get a good converter for $700.TSP prc ls6 stage 1 heads, torquer 2 cam ,ls6 intake ,bigger injectors and fuel pump, pnp TB.get a new timimg chain and oil pump.your don't need true duals, check the exhaust sticky for ideas.you need new rod bolts, and comp trunnion bearings upgrades.get a 9"or 12 bolt and some good suspension parts.

If you plan on whacking your build with nitrous, don't go with such a loose TC like these guys are saying. 4000 is too high of a stall, especially with 3.73 gears. If you go H/C/I and whack with a 100 shot, you should be making north of 550 whp, and would run out of gear pretty quick. I would say 3600 might even be too much, but then again, I am a T-56 guy.
