Default Choking and Stalling

My car has stalled out twice on me, when at a complete stop. It is an automatic, and I don't really know why. It idles sometimes at about just under 1, which is good, but suddenly it'll drop really low and bounce back, several times then dies. I've already replaced a bad distributor, plugs and plug wires, and it just started. I'm thinking that it might possibly be a bad fuel filter. I know if the filter is clogged and starving the engine, it will stall out, from what I hear anyway. It also could be a bad fuel pump from what I've been told as well, but I don't want to get into all that work. Any other suggestions? I really need to fix it asap.

If the filter is clogged it could cause the issues you are seeing, they are an easy swap as they just sit underneath the car. If you want to check your fuel pump without doing a ton of work I would just get a fuel pressure gauge and run it at the rail. If you see anything less then 58 psi then the pump is going out and I would get a new one. I would also recommend checking your front O2 sensors to make sure they aren't fouled. If you have a K&N filter on the car I would check the MAF as well. Sometimes excess oil can get sucked onto the sensor and cause the cars to run funny. Hopefully some of this helps!

Distributor? LS1's don't have those. What kind of car and what year are we talking about?

Everyone is thinking it is either distributor or spark plugs but i replaced all of those, and it's a '93 Firebird. Thanks for the help guys.

my ls1 does the same thing, i already changed the fuel filter, it did nothing so i'm goijng to be changing my fuel pump soon

i would check the easiest accessed stuff (MAF and O2 sensors) before i started screwing around with the fuel filter and the pump personally

If you haven't figured it out yet see if you have any codes - on a '93 you can flash them at the DLC using a paper clip.

I had a similar problem with my '01 Camaro. It ended up being the TPS. Apparently my oversized headers were burning through the teflon and eventually burned through the wires.
