Default LS1 Engine year

First, I am a NEWBIE, an old fart but new to the LS1. I worked on flatheads when I was a kid. Things have changed since then....

I picked up an LS1 today as I couldn't pass up the price ($1500). Everything with the engine (alternator, A/C, etc. all wiring, ECU) The basic question is trying to figure out the year produced and what it has and would need.

Block # 12559378
Heads # 241
Intake # 12560688

From my research here on the forum my best guess is that the engine is a 2000/2001. It does appear to have the EGR although I can't be sure since I don't have a clue what the EGR looks like on these engines. If EGR then it must be a 2000 since EGR went away in 2001 from what I have been able to find out.

The engine is very clean and doesn't appear to have a lot of miles (one would hope). I plan on running without any mods ( other than what might be required for efficiency). An aftermarket ECU will be used.

This will eventually be installed in my experimental plane with a reduction unit thus I want to get as much info as possible on the engine.

Default LS1 engine

I forgot to ask-- Anybody know what size bolts for mounting on an engine stand. This would be the transmission bolt holes. Have these gone to metric??

Almost all or all the bolts on the LS are metric BTW. If you could please post a few pics of the engine we could help you determine what year it is.

The numbers on the intake manifold match up the numbers for an EGR LS1 Intake manifold. This intake came in all 97-00 LS1 engines(97 First year C5 Vette was introduced with the LS1). The heads with casting 853 came in 98-early '00 F-body LS1's and the 241 casting heads in late 2000,01 and 02. Judging by those facts im going to say the LS1 you picked up is probobly late '00's...since it still has the ls1 EGR intake but has the 241 heads. Unless the person that sold you the engine swapped intakes right before he sold it to you, took off the LS6 intake manifold, made some cash and bought a cheap ls1 intake for 90 bucks, then installed it before he sold it to you.
