Default Spoiled

Ok, here is my other .02....I feel that if a younger person (16-17) wants a nice car, they have to prove they can..handle it, and take car of it properly. As mentioned before, i have a 97 Z28 M6. Since i pay for everything myself, i take better car of the car then say someone who has a fbody given to them. Its a fact, Somone whos actually pays for there crap, and understands if they screw up (accidents, tickets, etc.) then they are gonna have to pay the price. There has been many times when i have showed off, but its to a certain extent. I feel very comfortable driving my car, and am not affraid to take the car to its limits. If i wasn't comfortable, then i would not do whatever it was i wasn't comfortable about. Take this into conderation..my buddy is a little older than me, his parents bought him a s10 xtreme for his first car, it was nice, he did a system etc. But was mad one day at his g/f, and we around this corner, fishtaled around, and flipped it. He was fine with only a screw from where his arm pushed against the roof to brace himself, he had his seatbelt on and was fine (it was a minor scratch) well he got a 04 mustang GT. he has longtubes off road h pipe, borlas, pro 5.0, and an intake. Its a big competition between him and I. but the difference is, i pay for all my crap, and he is spoiled. Well we were goin down rt 70, and he is doin like 130 @ like 1:30 in the afternoon, i went to about 100, and then because i knew it was to conjested slowed down. My point is, i realized that if i went 130mph after him, i could have wrecked, my insurance would have skyrocked, and i could have been killed or even worse killed someone innocent. IF he would have paid for his crap too, he too would have thought the same as I. All im saying is if u pay for ur own car, ur gonna treat it with more respect. Sure, i street race, show off etc, but therre is a limit to my fun, and a time and a place. People that are 16 with WS6's/SS's that are given to them, 90% of them dont care as much as compared to someone with the same car who pays for it all. Im not saying that EVERYONE who is spoiled acts like this, but alot of people do. My buddy has YET to put money into his GT, its all his parents money. And when i beat him, it feels great. ANY person is gonna have fun, but just dont endager others, and make sure u have enought responsibility to accept that. im done , sorry for the rambling lol

No, when it comes to cars, we both pay the same. I pay insurence, and the down payment. When it comes to other things though, he gets those for free. He gets more for christmas, and ather things like that, a **** load of crap I don't have that he isn't even thankful for. Now there are talks of him getting his car back before the end of the school year, which means in the next month or so!!!! 2 wrecks, 2 tickets, 2 cars, 2 years. Do you see a pattern? Me 0 wrecks, 0 tickets, 1 car, 1 year. I don't consider hitting a curb a wreck, but some do. The police were not involved in that. I just think I get a little shafted, but I don't care, I love my God Damn Car.

nope, it's MOST companies policy and yes it does benefit the agent in terms of commissions.

I don't know about you, but most families don't let Jr. drive the most expensive car.
if you've been in the insurance business for 19 years, then you should know that Jr. can pickup the keys to the most expensive car and take it for a spin w/o the parents knowing. this is why carriers rate them on the most expensive. some companies do offer exclusions.

If mom & dad are financing Jr.'s Camaro, they're usually driving Corvettes, Cadillacs or Mercedes.
not always true....the whole point of my post was that this household with a Z/28, Mercedes, C5s, Caddys can just buy a junker '84 Ford Escort for $200 and falsely rate Jr. on it to pay 1/5th the insurance (liability) of the Z/28 that he really drives full time....and rate 60 yr old mom on the Z/28.

They'll (underwriters) rate on the car Jr. was driving at the time of the accident.
again, the whole point is that Jr. has been paying a much lower rate up until he wrecks that car under false representation. will your underwriter backdate the rating of Jr. on the car he was driving (Z/28) to the time that Jr. was added on the policy?

What side are you taking? Adjusters check coverages. If the driver isn't listed it gets flagged and sent to underwriting. If the driver is related and lives in the same household, the insurance goes up. I've NEVER seen a claim denied because of this unless the driver was previously excluded under the policy.
i've seen a case where Geico tried to deny a bodily injury case that went to court and they eventually paid out $100,000. i'm taking no sides. insurance companies are forprofit organizations....and the consumers are no angels.

Again, where did you want to go with this? A title search is not the first thing done when a claim is filed.
read what i said again. the part about a small fender bender vs. a big liability case. can you speak for the company that i represent? i didn't think so.

If a claim is in SIU, it's because of fraud, not a kid driving mom or dad's car.
read what you said again, as it is not logical. SIU investigates suspicion of fraud. it does not go to SIU already a a guaranteed fraud item.

Most theft's don't even get to SIU.
show me where i said that "most thefts goes to SIU". can you show me this? if not, then why are you making things up?

And unless the collision was a possible set up (staged) to collect on medical costs, collisions, regardless of the exposure, will not be sent to SIU. Under what possible curcumstance do you think was cause a file to be sent to SIU on a collision (car hits two parked cars, a truck, a pedestrian, and a building. Adjusters would be handling the property damage and medical bills. Why SIU?)?
problem here is that you need to read what i said again.....you obviously didn't understand and completely missed the part where i said that when the claim is ALREADY SIU...therefore under suspicion of fraud....the first thing they do is to usually run a title search.

it is obviously up to the claim handler to send something to SIU.

dumbass? Unfortunately, most companies keep the sales and claims people seperated in terms of knowledge. I don't pretend to know sales and most sales people don't pretend to know claims.
my market manager was a manager in claims (same company) and he's a good friend, now after all these years....d'oh

Ok, I was in the same boat you are in now. When i turned 16 my parents bought me a 2002 Firebird v6. Then a few months ago my father bought me a 2002 Trans Am WS6 6-speed. Everyone says 16 year olds dont need fast cars and that if they had one when they were this age they would be dead. Well, im 16 and not dead. I know how to handle the power and dont go full throttle off every stop light. Just be smart. A LS1 is FAST but by no means uncontrollable. Just be smart and dont do anything stupid and in the rain drive SLOOOOW! Just my .02 cents!

Edit: Forgot to add, right now my insurance is around $2000/year because im insured on my fathers(my old) v6. Once he purchases the GTO he wants, my insurance will be around $4000/year because I will be full time on the Trans Am instead of part-time.

If I had either one of these cars in my sig when I was your age, I'd be dead or paralyzed. No question. My '66 Dodge Dart GT with a 318 V8 nearly got me killed a couple of times because I was screwing around and racing it on the streets (I was 17). And that thing maybe had 150-200HP at the most.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

If your just turning 16 and this is your first car I wouldn't reccomend an LS1 or LT1. Maybe start off with an old iroc or RS to get the hang of things but stepping into a 300 hp LS1 that is RWD is no easy task if its your first car. I'm 18 and have been in 3 previous cars before gettin my ls1. Most of all, respect the car and what it can do. Be careful.

Even V-6's are expensive to insure. As much as it may be to digest, the smart move would be a base Neon, Escort, Cavalier, etc. They may not have a lot of flash, but you can pick up dependable, low mileage examples of these cars for less than $3000.

Second, the worst thing your agent (or his underwriter) can see when you apply for insurance, are these words or abreviations; V-8, turbo, supercharged, Camaro, Mustang, Corvette, Firebird, Porsche (even old 924 and 944 models), GT, Z-28, Z-24, etc. The cost to insure one of the models above would be about 25% or 35% of the cost of a Camaro Z-28. It's a lot harder to get into trouble with a 100 HP car vs. a 300 HP car.

The question you have to ask yourself is do you want to have money to spend on dates, movies, etc., or do you want to spend all your money on your car? If going to college, many schools won't let you keep a car on campus (bicycles only). Plus the cost of pizzas in the dorm. Buy something nice after college graduation.
Don't forget the cost of beer!

im 17 i dont know the exact numbers but from what my parents told me my insurance did not go up at all from having a 95 bonneville to a 2000 z-28. #1 rule in my family: no matter how bad an accident dont get the insurance involved.
