Default 98 LS1 long cranking periods/hard start

Once in a while, now more often then not, maybe a few times a day, my car takes a long time to crank and fire. maybe 3-5 seconds!
I replaced my fuel filter and dropped a racetronix pump in my car due to my stock fuel pump dieing altogether, but this starting issue still persists both before and after the install.
What is the most probable test/repair I can do next?

Fuel pressure regulator is my guess. I bet you didnt change it when the new pump went in.

also consider a leaky injector.put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail.also check your plugs to see if any are wet.do you see a cloud of smoke when it starts?check all your grounds also, and check your crank sensor .

Sounds like a fuel pressure regulator to me. Its a common problem with these cars.

I did not, I looked at it and didnt see any obvious reason it needed changing.

no clouds of smoke. I also considered the leaky injectors because this car is 197k miles old now, but because i dont get the cloud of rich smoke, i guess thats probably not it.

for the noobs that may find this thread in a search, yes battery is a first step check, however in my case this does not apply, my engine cranks fast and fine, and like I said above, two primes with the key and it always fires right away, one fuel pump prime.. not so much... sometimes up to 5 seconds!
damn i gotta get off my *** and fix this..
just got my blown iroc running though and its too much fun!
