Default First Post.. Dumb Question.. Help Please.

Hi boys and girls.
First post here. . . with a dumb question.

Where can I get a FSM for my 98 Camaro?
(FSM = Factory Service Manual)

I have them for my Vettes but haven't seen a handy place to buy one for the 'camaro.

Thanks and Race On !!

I want the real McCoy.

Pep and Napa have Haynes manuals but the "Heavy Duty" Factory Manual is what is needed.

I want the one like I've got for my Vettes.
Big old 4-5 inch thick suckers you need a wheelbarrow to haul around..just kidding but they are HUGE.... lot'sa pages, lot'sa detail.

Cost about a hunner't bux. What they use down at the (bad word) "dealer".

Lot's of places sell'em for Vettes.

Anybody got a source for the F-Body ones?

Please don't say go to the dealer.........I'd rather get in bed with a rattlesnake.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

yeah, check the dealer....even possibly thought GMs website. If you register your car on the site you can gain access to online manuals and stuff...or if you want also order the books.

They are called "Helms Manuals". You should be able to get one from Scoggin Dickey ( a site sponsor)

You can also do a search on the internet for them.

I believe they are three sperate books. PLan on spending $110+ for them.

http://www.helminc.com

They are the GM supplier. You can get the factory owners manual and the big thick service manuals.

Thumbs up

Thanks Guys,

Got'em ordered form here:

http://www.factoryautomanuals.com/ca...4b8b790add9f0f

$85 for the 3 volume set and $7 for the supplement.

This ol LS1 has been a good one.
Bought new in 98 and has never had a wrench on it.
Just 3000 mile oil changes and 2 transmission flush and filters.
One set of ceramic brake pads on the front and regular pads on the back.
3 sets of tires, on the third set now. That's it. Got 64,000 trouble free miles on it over the last 6 years. They can't get much more trouble free than this one's been.

But it recently threw the infamous P4116 or whatever it is.
Secondary Air System.
Reset it with my AutoXRay but it came back.

Time to get the books and start studying...........

It almost ALWAYS BEST to start with a book. I don't just want to fix it,I want to understand how the systems interelate.

This OBD II is sooooooo much better than OBD I though. Lots more data.

Thanks again everyone.

From what I understand, it's only the OBDI cars that had the 3-volume set.

OBDII came along around 1992.
This is a 98 GM ..... Definitely OBDII.
Manual description says 3 Volume Set for a 1998 Camaro.

There wasn't enough data in OBDI that needed three volumes.

I've got three sets of Vette FACTORY manuals, ALL OBDI.
1984
1990
1991
They are ALL TWO volume sets.
(1) Main Factory Data
(2) Electrical Supplement

They have to be better than the Helms,Haunes,Hains,Haynes or whatever those things AutoZone and NAPA sell.

Note: Although I DO buy those too. One CANNOT read to much...

Just came back in from checking all the A.I.R hoses, tapping on the AIR Injection one way valves and visually checking all the hoses.
Reset the ECM AGAIN. Lights out for now but I expect it to come back on in the next two or three start cycles.

The A.I.R. pump appears to be an electrically driven device in the left front fender under the ABS Actuator.

Hope those manuals arrive soon.

Thanks again for the help and interest, guys.

type in camaro cd on ebay.
alot of times it will come up with
a copy of the exact program they use
at the dealer that includes EVERY gm car
and truck. It's like 10 bucks and retails
for 500.
I have it and no I can't make copies-already
tried. It will tell you everything-literally

The Haynes and Chiltons that you buy at the parts store are absolute garbage. A lot specs are wrong like torque specs, firing orders, etc.

I replaced the air pump on my 98. It pobably wasn't needed because I still got an intermittent SES light. I later replaced the air check vavle (much cheaper and easier then the air pump) on the drivers side and have not had any problems since.
