Does fuel injector cleaner really work?

Fuel injector cleaner won't unclog a fully clogged fuel injector, but if used every oil change they keep the injectors clean. It's used for preventative maintenance, not when the car barely runs anymore. Since I have been using it regularly on my cars I have never had a fuel injector problem, but before I started using it I did have some that failed.
