The price sounds okay...You could try to get them a little lower. Its not outrageous or anything. Was this the only car you've looked at? If it was, look around a little bit, no need to rush yourself. The best thing to do if you're serious about it would be to bring it to you're local/family mechanic for a evaluation of the car. Most dealers with good reps have no problem with that. Oh and here's an AutoCheck...Clean record!

The price seems fair, but go test drive and check out a few others to see how it compares. Z28s are a dime a dozen, and can usually be purchased at lower prices than other LS1 f-bodies. Also, you might want to check out some of the ones for sale in our Classified forum, I've seen some smoking deals in there, and its worth taking a flight to get THE car you want sometimes.

The only benefit of the 2001+ models is that they come with a factory LS6 intake manifold. Worth about 5 rwhp on a stock car. If you buy a 99-00, you can pick up a used LS6 intake for around $300. Other than that, the cars are damn near identical. Remember, the less you spend on the actual car itself, the more you will have available to spend on personal upgrades later!

I would just concentrate on finding a very clean car to start with. I've seen 99s selling for $10-12K lately. My gf bought a 2000 T/A for $16K a few months ago (36K miles).

Check out www.kbb.com to see what trade-in values are for these cars. That will give you an idea of what the dealership paid for the car you are interested in. Might help you negotiate them even lower
