Dyno before and after a stall. The larger the stall the more power it will "hide". Same thing for gears or a nine inch etc etc. It will greatly lower your et but will show you make less power.

Op, you have springs and pushrods already, what about a timing chain and oil pump? I'd be damned if I had a motor out of the car and just a few hundred away from a cam and didnt put it in.

I'm confused then... Why not just throw all that on there and then buy a converter? You can have all that stuff installed in just a couple hours.

Or were you going to sell all that stuff and buy a converter with that money?

I was under the impression that you were on the fence about getting a cam or stall? I guess I misunderstood too.

Many years ago, Yank had a series of converters that were extremely efficient; the SuperYank series (offered in 3500 and 4000 stall). They weren't very popular because of cost and the fact they had a very low STR, making launches softer than other converters of the same stall speed. But the trade off was great higher rpm efficiency, as seen in trap speeds and dyno numbers. I had one of these, but sold it with the car at the time. If Yank was still making them, I'd probably buy another for street use. It's not a converter I'd pick for a mostly-track car though, I never did better than a 1.69 60 foot, even with full traction on drag radials and 3.23 gears. It was great on the street though; you could do almost a full power launch with any sort of DR, thus beating quicker cars that couldn't get traction.

Whats the specs on the cam you have? If its not real big you can probably slide it in and save for a stall. If its a big cam, wait till you have a stall that can make it street friendly.

FWIW, a stall should be done before the cam. It gives a bigger ET reduction, and makes the cam alot more driveable when you do it. FWIW my sisters full weight Z with a Yank 3600 and stock long block went 12.2's so the stall does help alot.

install the cam and put the motor in,but don't install the tranny.wait 1 more pay check and get the converter you need.then save up for a trans cooler and a dyno session.be patient the best things take time.

Like they said earlier stall first, you'll need it for the cam anyways
