Default Making the right offer

Whats a reasonable offer for a 2002 z28 with about 9k miles on it......excellent interior and exterior.....loaded. It was a buyback vehicle because of a faulty pcm :\

What do you guys think??

Also supsoedly the pcm was said to be faulty and replaced because of an engine stall problem.....anyone ever hear of something along those lines?

If GM was forced to buy it back I would be very wary of the car. I can't see them buying back a car due to a pcm issue. The story sounds a little sugar coated.

Go to kbb.com and look up private party value. It should get you in the ballpark as far as a price goes.

I would offer a couple grand less to start with and make sure you get a good warranty.

Of course, depending on what you want to do, you might be able to get a really good deal on the car. If you want to mod it heavily and aren't worried about a warranty it might be a good car for you. You could offer like 1k less than half of the kbb price, once you tell them you know it was a lemon buyback...

Yeah, but don't you think the dealer will find someone who didn't check the VIN and offers like $23K??

Hmmmm...........im almost tempted to do what rschum is talking about.

What if it was ONLY the pcm ....i mean could make one hell of a mod car think of all the mod money saved.

I'd pass on it.

Anyone notice that it has 97-99 wheels? You're asking for trouble if you pick that car up.

1) GM and the dealership has to disclose that the vehicle was a buyback. Same if it was a wrecked/salvaged/flood vehicle.

2) I work at a dealership. We have a Trailblazer Ext. that was a GM buyback and we have had it forever. Something usually has to be pretty wrong with a car (i.e., not something petty) to get GM to do a buyback on it. After they find out what was supposedly wrong they'll then sell it to a dealership to have them resell.

Having purchased several cars that were considered salvaged for one reason or other I can tell you that any "branded" title makes the car worth about 50% less than a clean titled car. You may think your getting a great deal but when you turn around to sell the car expect about 1/2 of what the clean titled cars of the same year/mileage draw. If the car has been properly repaired (tough to know unless you have someone you trust evaluate it) and your not concerend about resale you can sometimes get a good deal. My 02 Z only cost me 10K (total with all repairs) with 22k on the odometer but the title has been "branded" as a former flood vehicle. My opinion is that the dealer wants WAY too much money for a GM buyback/Lemon car.

Good Luck!
