No offense to the OP, but I find it hilarious how people still talk about "chips".

People have told me that abut my Formula... hey man, you ought to get a new chip for that! Then I have to exlplain how GM cars haven't had chips in almost 20 years.

It's like the new school old timers.... instead of double hump heads and 3/4 race cams, it's chips and throttle body airfoils.

ALL of my friends have imports (Civics, GTIs, etc..) and they still use chips so when one of my friends got a chip for his GTI and it was noticeably more powerful, so i just thought we did aswell lol
Sorry for the stupidity

Same basic concept just different specifics and term. Many auto makes still use chips, so for some they use the term "chips" instead of "tune" cant expect everyone to be knowledgeable on every auto manufacturer

Sorry, no offense.

I know next to nothing about imports, I thought they didn't have chips either, and tuned thier cars the same way we do.

I stand corrected.

Chip tuning is still very much alive for some imports. I know the turbo VWs can make big gains from APR tuning chips. BUT, that's mainly for boosted cars. NA cars obviously don't gain much from chips. I know my '01 VR6 GTI would only really gain a reduction in throttle lag with a chip due to the electronic throttle.

in regards to handheld tuners, the PO of my car used a Diablosport tune on it and made 335/344 with the mods in my sig.
