Convert 5.3l return to non-return?

Convert 5.3l return to non-return?
Hello, All,
Has anyone tried to convert a 5.3 return-style truck rail to non-return? I have plumbed my car with a Corvette FPR at the tank, and welded the return line closed at the intake. When I pressurized the system to leak-test it, it was tight for a few seconds, and then blew the O-ring in the FPR at the intake and spewed gas. I would like to know if this was simply due to a bad O-ring, or if there is some fundamental reason that my cheap plan will not work.
