Have $800, what mods to add?

Probably, but $800 isnt going to afford me "full boltons" + a converter
As far as the boltons go, I've got about enough for long tubes, a ypipe, and a LS6 intake. That, plus what I've saved for a tune may net me 30 rwhp and about mid - low 12s with my DRs in good DA... but its not enough to beat 12.2s consistantly

For the hwy the juice is the way to go.
A PTC converter, cooler, and tune would put you at budget and you would slaughter him at the track with good tires. It is not hard for a correctly stalled auto to out run improperly set-up M6s from a dig even with quite a bit less mods.

I think he has money set aside, beside the 800$, for a tune.
He could do the converter/ls6 intake. Granted he has tires and doesn't have to include that in the 800$ budget.
I believe everyone agrees if he wants to take the Z all around nitrous is the only way to get close with that budget.
How close is your buddy that bought the PTC?

if you plan to keep the car, do it right the first time...i would say build the trans with a converter first and then go from there. a C5Z is probably only putting 350-360ish to the wheels with a cat back. no point in throwing the bottle at a high mileage car and running the risk of blowing other things up. if that happens, your $800 won't do you much but get you a tow truck home lol. also, if you're on a budget, have you considered weight reduction? Since the vette's don't weigh much, that gives them a huge advantage on the camaros and T/As especially from a roll. From a dig with a good converter and tires, you should see mid to upper 12's which should take most drivers in vettes unless he's really good.

I think full exhaust, an ls6 intake, a good tune and DR's would get you mid 12's. I wouldn't put in a converter without a built tranny. I waited to do both at the same time but I would be too paranoid any other way being that it's my DD.

I personally wouldn't mod my car just to beat one guy, I would build it the way I wanted to. Which will you be happier with? I personally would do the bolt-ons first. No re-filling the bottle, making sure it is up to pressure when you need it, etc. If you plan on racing the car alot, then nitrous would make the most sense.
