Hypertech worth the Hype?

Hypertech worth the Hype?

Just wondering what is the opinion of spending $300 for a programmer? Is this the way to gear your car to jump off the line quicker? Or what about a torque converter....both of these are knew to me.

I would go with a TC (3500stall

) first and for a handheld I would go with a Predator

I used Hypertech or Predator would be your best bet. I got a used hypertech failry cheap and enjoy the benefits of it, since my Hawk is basically stock still with little mods done.

Unfortunately you can't use a used Predator to tune you car, as you can with a Hypertech. I would buy a Predator for a handheld anyway b/c the realtime data is very nice (and can be used on other GM ODBII cars) and you can customize settings.

If you want to come off the line quicker; (if an A4) get a torque converter and/or drag radials; (if a M6) gears and a set of DR's.

I have hypertech. It is ok, but overpriced. I got mine on ebay for $169. It was worth that, but not $300. The power tuning isn't worth much, but playing with rev & speed limits is good. If you need to adjust for non-stock wheels or gears, it's even better. I say get it used or save up for hptuner. You'll need a laptop to use it, but you won't be unhappy with it. It is expensive at $500 though.
