You are saying it's odd your car didn't max out at 154MPH? The speedo only goes to 155MPH...
I said it maxed out the speedo, not stopped at 155, which means it went past. I said it went to the limter, well into the yellow anyways when I let off.

Anyways, I believe reading that the car is governed at about 160MPH. With no governor they can get the car up to 180MPH, top speed for the engine.
I do believe the fuel cutoff would kick in before it reached 180

One of the SLP big shots, in the day, told me he took a WS6 to Talledega Raceway for a top speed run. The car was filled up with 94 octane and the tire pressures were increased (to allow a margin of safety against tire overheating) and a professional driver got the stock car to more than 272kph, 169mph. Actually, he claimed the car would do 172mph, but for some reason my memory of the run was him telling me "more than 272kph" . He did not mention any manipulation of the computer etc to achieve this feat. He also claimed that the Camaro would be a couple of ticks slower due to the aero of it. One of these days I'll try to clarify if I can find him...

Governor = computer limits

computer limit = the speed rating of original tires

nuff sed

I watched a video on youtube of several cars and their top speed runs. Video was filmed in 1997. They used a 1997 Camaro Z28 or SS, I don't remember. But it had the LT1, and it got up to about 172MPH, completely stock. I imagine the LS1 would be able to surpass that.

I do believe a previous poster stated somthing backwards.. A governor will shut your car down a limiter simply limits max rpms your able to achieve therefore limiting your speed... So umm ya.. Kinda some disinformation in here but the easiest way to fix a car stuck at 110 is buy a hand held tuner..

Anything that has a governer or a speed limited ECU will give u a dead pedal once max speed is reached by cutting spark .

I remmy when I had 2001 SS come with governor throttle. When I had bad stuck on snow pavement. my SS run likely surge on gas and run TOO weak run. Something wrong w/ governor something block on my gas pedal FULLY. I cut off on cable and unplug connector and still not work. Had to go tuner to remove (ECU) on governor<<F**K
I never want to have governor on my Ls1/2 Camaros

Yeah um...That wasn't the governor, that was the traction control/ASR/TCS. You should never have touched the ECU there was nothing wrong with it...

Find an old, paved, country road that is straight for about three miles. Go there and put your pedal to the floor. If you can't get all of your gauges cranked to the max, you have a governor.

Okay.. so maybe not the best advice?
