Default Best and worst mods you have done..

I have a couple buddies that are new to the LS1 and question different mods. I would like to start a list of best / worst mods to help the newer enthusiast keep from wasting money.

Mods I feel don't do a dam thing are:
K&N FIPK
Timing tricker
Holley Aluminum intake
BBK TB (Better off with a ported TB)

Best mods:
LT Headers
Cut out
N20
TQ Converter for an auto

I'm sure other people will add to the list..

cant believe you dont notice the FIPK
are you sure you dont mean the K&N filter?
i know i didnt notice the holley filter.

even the SSRA made a noticeable difference.
that was after a lid, though.

You forgot LID for one of the best. Also, DR's

Two of the worst: Smooth bellows (unless you do it for appearance) and Granetti (did I spell that right?) MAF sensor (very few I have seen gain HP, most lose)

Good:
-Cam
-Springs
-Timing Set
-Oil Pump
-Lid
-Air Filter
-Cutout
-SFC's
-MAC's w/ bullet mufflers
-Free mods
-LCA's
-B&M shifter
-Spark plus, NGK's
-Drilled/Slotted rotors
-Spark plug wires

Bad:
-Porting MAF housing
-Flowmaster, aka Crapmaster, Chokemaster, etc... (previous owner installed)

There is a fine line between good and bad, everyone has their own opinions, and it depends on the cars purpose as well.

Best (mod?): not listed but the stock tires suck and the BFG KDW made a nice difference for off the line. So, tires.....

So far my mods have been a Radio Shack resistor for disabling the skip shift, an SLP air box lid, a K&N air filter, a locking gasoline cap, and a set of four new Firestone Firehawk SZ tires. All have been worthwhile.

Best mod so far is cam and gears. Gears in particular will really wake your car up and give you this cool humming noise from your rear.
Worst, electic cutout cuz it broke on me! The cutout is really beneficial though, just don't get electric.

I haven't had any bad mods except for maybe the SLP smooth bellows. But I got that used and just for the looks.

My other mods are all excellent in my opinion.
Magnaflow catback
Ripper shifter
H&R springs
Cue ball shift ****=
SLP air lid, fits great and cleaned up the engine bay a lot. Power increase was barely noticable.

Worst Mods I've Done: Flowmaster, SLP y-pipe (notice how neither of those things are on my car anymore?)

Best mods:

LT Headers (30+rwhp from PPCs)
Predator (for an A4)
BGRA (for a Ram Air, -.15 sec off ET)
GMAF - or ends (- .25 sec off ET)
Tires - need traction
Suspension - wheel hop will KILL your rear end
I did Adj TQ Arm, LCAs & Brackets, SFCs, 1" Sway Bar, Adj PHB, Shocks & Springs

Worst Mod:

GMAF too lean = Knock = BAD!

And the Best yet to do:

Gears & Torque Converter
Heads & Cam (& then a roll cage....smile)

Best mods so far:

TSP Lid
Pro 5.0 with LSS
17 X 9 Wheels
!CAGS

Worst mods so far:
SLP Catback exhaust (apparently not a one people keep complaining about because this exhaust sounds stock to me.)
SLP Smooth Bellows

Not sure yet:
Strut Tower Brace
SLP Cold Air Induction

I've only owned my car since November 03 and it has been covered in my garage bone stock until about 2 weeks ago. This is going to be expensive I think
