Default Reluctor? How to tell?

How can you tell what reluctor is in your engine?

I have a 5.3 LS out of a 2004 Suburban.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

An '04 Suburban will definitely be 24x crank reluctor. When you look at the reluctor wheel, 24x looks like two wheels pressed together with just a little space between. The 58x wheel looks like a single wheel.

Ok, Thanks.

I got edumacated last night!! LOL

To see what reluctor is in your engine without disassembly. The black cam pickup located at the top rear (old style distributor location) is used with the 24 tooth reluctor and the grey pickup is used with the 54 tooth reluctor and is on the front of your engine.

Hope this helps someone down the road..

I did some google image searches, I'd say the 2 wheels together vs 1 wheel is a great way to describe it.

Question though, didn't GM swap from 24x to 58x in different years? 5.3 was somewhere.. 2004ish.. 6.0.. ? Obviously all the new gen IV engines are 58x.
