If you keep it off, just make sure your air filter is good and keep it clean.

I still have the MAF unit on my LS1 but only removed the screen. Just wondering for those that removed there screen only did they get their cars tuned by a tuner ( HP tuner or anything). My rpms were at 500 while at idle. Car seems to be wasting alot of gas.

A very reputable speed shop/tuner in my area told me to keep the maf screen. They specialize in LS engines and have several LS equipped 5sec. 1/8 mile cars with the stock MAF and screen. That's good enough for me.

I bought my car with a descreened MAF. I would recommend against doing it, it was making my car run dangerously lean at wot. Granted I don't know if the guy that descreened it boogered up the sensor when he did it or not, or maybe my MAF was just bad. With the descreened MAF my tuner would have to set the power enrichment afr to 10.5 just so the car would run 12.8-13.0 afr under wot. If it was set to 12.5 the car would run a 16.0 afr wot. Speed density ftw

well if you get your tuned by someone called “turbo man” its no wonder...
lol after we removed the maf I think it was running in the 9.5 range... Funny thing looking at the maf logs it didn't even look outta wack

but yea either take it off or leave it alone. That simple.

Yeah I got MAF one with the screen and the other without. Put the one with the screen back on. Gas mileage looks better.

My stock MAF that came on my car had it's screen. It was detonating, and we finally figured the problem out. It was the MAF, it was bad. So I bought a 98 Vette MAF off my friend's dad, and I believe they were de-screened from the factory. My car runs good now de-screened, and next time I go to the dyno I will chat with NicD about the whole screen/de-screen thing. I am on the fence about the subject.

I got a bone stock Z28, cut out the bottom of my air box, slp lid because the rubber was torn on my stock lid, removed the screen, ported my maf, and throttle body (also tweaked the butterfly to open a full 90*. No problems, and love the percieved throttle response, and sound. There is a place to get a higher flow laminar screen...theres a thread here somewhere. Its some computer company or something...hope that helps
