When I had my 99 Z28 a few years back I bought a load of used go faster parts from another 99 Z28 owner who put a BBC in his car and drag raced it down into the 9s
So I got a load of bits cheap SLP long tubes headers with high flow cats and 3" Y pipe. TCI 3000 Streetfigher. SLP lid and he gave me a Z06 85mm MAF with the pig tail connector to try.
So I used it, it ran great on my car with no problems I can't say I felt any seat of the pants difference but the time my car ran was good as it had a European quiteness pack on the exhaust making it more retrictive that the USA Z28s
So I think with a more free flowing exhaust or drag radials I would have been high 12s on the motor. and high 11s with a 150 shot of nitrous

I can't say it's a deffinate worth while upgrade but I can say the car ran well with it on there and I had a stock tune.
