Headers and Borla
I have a basically stock 99 Z28. After a lot of searching I cannot find the answer to this question and it is a pretty noob question. I've been thinking about headers. Most people seem to prefer BBK or Pacesetter LTs. Are these compatible with a Borla catback which my car already has? What do I need to make it work? Will they give me a check engine light? Thank you for your help.

I have the Borla adjustable system on my 99 Formula. I just ordered ARH 1-7/8 headers and 3" Y, waiting to receive them. Should go on without an issue. Most Y pipes will match up to all catbacks depending on diameter of them. Check that first.

I had to have my merge to I-pipe welded up. The OD of the BBK was slightly larger than the Borla I-pipe. I couldn't pull the Borla I-pipe out to really try fitting them together, but it looked to me like they wouldn't fit. Tried a band clamp and it leaked. Had a muffler shop weld it up and looking at it now i've decided the band clamp was indeed a "crackpipe dream" lol
Cost me like $20 hell I wasted $12 on the bandclamp.
BBK install went great!
yes you will get codes. EGR, AIR, rear 02's. Sent my PCM off to frost. Easily worth it.

I have an electric cutout just about under the rear seat, will it interfere with anything as far as the y pipe that comes with the BBK fitting to the Borla? Also if it throws codes unless tunes, will it essentially run like crap unless tuned? How much would an average tune cost to correct the codes? Thanks

I have never installed the BBK headers, but I know the pacesetters are good. Every set I have installed go in with out a problem. I know the pacesetter y-pipes will go on to you Borla with out a problem as well. That set up sounds really good, almost as good as my old GMMG set up.
If you cant find any one to tune your codes out for cheap, if you want you can mail me you pcm and I can do it for you. I have 99 unlocked so it would just be the shipping.

Depends on what kind of cars the shop usually works on. I got quotes anywhere from $600 to $950 (<-- they work with high end cars). Never asked a plain old mechanic to install them. I'm just doing it myself with a friend or 2 in a couple weeks

Most places quote it as a 6-8 hour job.
Depending on the brand of header installs can get complicated. Some you have to modify the K member to get them to fit too. BBK, Pacesetter, and ARH are pretty good about not having any install issues, Kooks as well I assume.
