Yea if anyone can find an updated list of the free mods that would be nice the old one that's floating around the links don't work.

I bought my car last year with 142000 on it it ran great very quick until a month later I spun a bearing but it was no slouch it was peppy.

Mabye your car is in "limp" mode?

Mine was bogging down a lot too when I got it. Did plugs/wires, cleaned MAF and changed the oil. Had 3.73's put in. Nothing. Finally, while putting my LT's on, we noticed that it had the ORIGINAL fuel filter on it. That and the LT's made a WORLD of difference obviously. Felt like someone kicked my car in the @$$ when I got on it.

Cliff: check the fuel filter. Most people don't even think about them.

When do you need to change your fuel filter? I have 70,000 miles on mine, pretty sure it has never been changed, now a good time?

op, how does the car idle? I would clean your tb and fuel filter because its simple. If those don't help I would try plugs and wires. If that doesn't help either compression test or save for a motor.

I do my filter 25k, its really simple and i suck at wrenching.

98mph is a very low trap speed for a stock LS1. Don't waste your time worrying about ET, because any sort of wheel spin will distort that number and make comparasion pointless. Your car could be running fantasic and still do a 14.4 with shitty tires (but it should be more like 103-105mph at least). Focus on MPH changes, as this will show the return of horsepower levels - ET only indicates traction.

There's some good advice in this thread on areas to start with. Cover the maintenance basics before you worry about any sort of mods.

FREE MODS Okay bro.. here it goes as faras FREEMODS..from here on out, im going to refer the throttle body as 'tb' okay, firstoff,"tb bypass",seeif its been done, there's a coolant line that runs thru ur tb, it keeps ur tb warm , 4 winter weather reasons, but, we dont run these in the winter, so u want a COLD tb for obvious reasons, more dense o2, , so u take that coolant line off the tb,and bypass it using a correct small extension and reconnect, NEXT is "bump stop mod", this is were at WideOpen Throttle, u mash the gasand cable pulls and it it hits a bumpstop, playwith itmanually looking at the cable when its put at WideOpen Throttle, if it hits the plate but theres a fraction of slack in the cable or ur throttle body looking at it, is not looking parrell with the ground, its not opened all the way, well grind the small spot where it its, i said a small fraction so ur tb opens up all the way,if it hasnt been done, NEXT, is under ur air lid, is the bottom where the air is coming from looks like a small u.s mailenveolopeopening, cut the plastic, pretty much u can see how much to cut, so more air gets to the bottom of ur filter, NEXT is "tb porting", i have a friend that can port ur tb up a little to let more air in, NEXT, not always recommended..is de-screen ur MAF..hope this helped, i can explain more when we catch up! BTW , these may have already been done by the previous owner

Good call on opening up the air baffle. I noticed it was a tiny slot for the air. I hadn't thought of that.

A cheap mod is a lid. Supposedly the baffles in the stock lid are uh.. crappy. they cause turbulence or something..

I'm not sure how much power any of that is good for.. my guess would be 1-2FWHP, can't be anything substantial.

Think again. An aftermarket lid is a proven ~10rwhp gain on average. They are more than worth it.

I don't know how much power a lid gives but I can give my experience real quick. First mod was my cat-back, this was more of a fun mod, make it loud. I could feel a slight loss in low end torque, car wasn't as peppy from lower RPM's, but it pulled harder in the top end. Second mod was lid. The lid restored most of the lost torque, and it made the car pull noticeably harder in the top end. I can nail it from 100MPH and it will throw me back in my seat, before both mods it wouldn't do that.
