Default Putting an engine in from the top or bottom??

I bought a roller and i have an engine/trans to put back in it. I also do not have a lift. I've read about the Happy Hooker and it seems like a great product to use when doing this from the top. Now, would it be possible to put the engine/trans (still together) from the top using the happy hooker?

I've always pulled/installed them from the top.

About to pull the motor/TH350 out of my TA from the top

Do you leave the heads and manifolds on? Any tips or pictures?

I don't need to drop the engine. I'm putting an engine/trans back into a roller.

I had to tear mine down to a shortblock to get it out through the top. Then i saw one come out through the bottom later, and it was much easier than what i went through.

I left the heads on but pulled the everything off the front of the engine. After everything is ready to be pulled I can get them out in a half hour through the top.

I don't see the point of removing the K-member and making the car completely immobile

I have done it from the top a couple of times, I pull the complete engine, only thing I remove is the exhaust and the trans, then it will come out, its tricky, and has to be tilted at a pretty big angle, but its possible, I dont do it from the top because I dont have a way to keep the car that high in the air. I agree pulling it from the bottom would be easier.

I have done 4something of these motors from the bottom after one from the top(f that). You can make a simple sling on each side of the core support and the same one arm bandit you would use your to pull the motor will lift the car plenty high enough and the k member and motor will simply roll out. Even if you are just installing it is the same backwards. Don't be afraid to pull k member and don't forget to take brake lines loose.nothing to it

Bottom is super easy. Just gotta get the front high. Put the trans on the motor (while its on the kmember), put the harness on both. 3 harbor freight rollers (i actually prefer 2 rollers on the k member, 1 trans jack on the tranny). Slide it all under, drop the body down. Use a jack on the k member to bring it up to the body if needed. 6 k member bolts, 4 trans crossmember bolts. Done.

Ive now done 10-12 drops / installs this way, never had an issue.

Bottom is easiest by far. No need to tear your engine half apart. Just electrical connections, steering linkage, brake and fuel lines. 6 k member bolts and 4 trans cross member bolts....done.

There's no brake line across the k member? That was the big PITA with the third gen through the bottom...

Brake and fuel lines are simple. Hardest part is directing them out of the engine bay with the engine.

I dropped everything out the bottom, unhooked the fuel and brake lines, driveshaft and exhaust, and out it came. Put a wheel dolly under the tranny and rolled it out with the wheels out from under the car. So happy I have a hoist at home...lol

i pulled mine out through the top, but thinking about dropping the kframe and putting it in from the bottom, came out easy enough from the gearbox but going to be a pain going in with the angle to line up with the box.

we drop k-frames and drop motors out from under neath on the front wheel drive cars at work as a whole with the gearbox attached so could be better this way at home. plus can replace my leaking rack and front struts then in one hit with no fuss.

you guys leave the headers and cats bolted on when doing it this way or just the headers?
