Default Worth putting in a cam?

Mostly stock 2001 m6 ss. I have headers, ory, wideband ready to install soon, hptuners to tune. Is it worth my time to put in a cam at this point? I've read a few posts and it looks like I'd get some good gains. I've picked this cam from trickflow. 283/286, Lift .585/.585, Lobe Sep. 112. I know the other things I need to buy like springs, pushrods etc.

I guess I'm a little worried just headers and ory won't wake it up enough. But maybe I should pick doing less work and go thru the easy bolt on stuff first?

do you have a lid? you can add pulleys when youre installing your cam.

as long you as you have LTs you should make excellent power.

Yes get all the bolt ons. Even the free mods. This are all great and help support addition of a cam.

hellya go for it. I have stock heads, stock ls6 intake, stock rear. But I have a comp baby cam w/ full exhaust, ported TB, volant air intake, reduced pulley, 3600 stall, dyno tune. Puts down a little under 400rwhp and I love the way it runs. Not a world beater by any means but it is a good place to stick around for a while so I can plan and budget the next mods; Pro ported 243/799 heads and a BIGGER cam.

Your not going to notice the supporting mods. Cam and heads are where the power is at. Id stay with a small to medium sized cam that will make power everywhere.

Thanks for the input, I put a ported TB and msd wires on also along with the lid. I also have the slp pulley and 160 thermostat. Should be a different car I'm hoping.

I think you may be off on the cam size...... That would be way too much cam for that motor.

Advertised duration makes it sound bigger than it is....

lol at the 286 cam.

Yes you will pick up power and yeah it's worth the money because you get a bad *** idle.

I ran that cam for a while in my setup -- great mid range power, nice lope at idle with decent street manners. The cam coupled with that group of mods will be a very noticeable gain. If you have any plans of adding an underdrive pulley in the future, might as well knock that out while you're doing the cam swap.

My mods are in my sig, but I think they are close to what you are thinking about. Car is totally different (in a good way). I love the way it sounds now, and it is nice and strong but still very driveable.

283/286..................... I think you meant 233/236 because that's a ridiculous duration to have, I believe you read it incorrectly, but yes a cam makes major improvements to an LS1, especially with a manual, Do it up, I would STRONGLY suggest upgrading your valve springs to 908's because one of the major KILLERS of LS1's are valve float from over reving, regardless of your rev-limiter being set low, CHEAP INSURANCE and you can rev it out w/ confidence and with that new cam your power curve will shift and will carry the power further into the rpm's so you will want to put your limiter up further to take advantage of that cam and if your cam specs are indeed those ridiculous durations, I would sell it and get a cam better suited to your set up!!!

Lol yes I know that was advertised duration, I copied and pasted from summit, I wanted a cam near one of the 228ish tsp profiles. I will be putting in a set of valve springs too. Started driving it again and it really needs something more, feels slow and needs to be opened up. I have a wideband, raptor shift light along with hptuners to hopefully take advantage of it all.
