Obviously not recommended but Cam without tune temporarily?
Ok so I'm thinking about doing my Cam, Valve Springs, Oil Pump, And Timing Chain at a friends house with a nice garage and some more LS1 knowledge than me.
I have a 2000 SS M6 w/ just a lid prior to the cam install. I will need to drive my car about 500 miles before I'm able to get a tune for my ride but will I be okay with a Comp Cam 224/224 .581 112LSA Cam, Comp 918 springs, LS6 oil pump, LS2 chain without a tune for a little while? Obviously its recommended but will I screw anything up by doing this? Thanks.

I had a 224r that I drove around and beat the snot out if it for 6 months before getting it dyno tuned. It didn't hurt anything.

It's less than 500, more like 250 miles. I live up in Chico, CA but want to do the cam swap at my buddies garage with his help and expertise in San Jose. I don't have time to stay in San Jose and wait for a mail order tune and don't have the $$$ or the rest of my bolt on's or heads to get a full dyno tune. If I went to San Jose (200 miles away) it would be for the day, put the cam in, drive home, then send it in for a mail order tune. Then my car would be out of commission for about 3 or 4 days, but I can always have my gf drive me to work & school.

IMO, not a good plan.
Is it possible? Maybe, ...
I'm not puttin' my money on 'success'.
Too many gremlins & issues could rise up.
I did my own swap over the course of about 3 weekends in Omaha.
Then drove to Lincoln about 50 miles for the tune with no issues.
So the tune may not be the problem, but having everything come together
correctly & in a timely fashion could be.
If yer gonna do the tune by Frost, why not buy an extra PCM & have
him do the tune to that one & then swap that weekend?
Is that possible?

Of course i had to wait on the tune for a long time, due to the project on my car that drain my last saved up nickle. See Rising from the Ashes for details...
Not having it tuned after ur cam, Completely Sucks!!!
The car will stall on you all the time, and you will have to learn how to drive while hittng both gas/brake pedals at same time.
Its not recommended because of air to fuel ration (So i was told), and WOT is a big No no... But still did anyways.
I also have comparisons of how the car drove before and after tune... That was amazing! The proof is the street racing i did to find out.
You are far better off going with a tune right away, you wont have to deal with your ride running worse than stock.
Like i said, it sucks!
P.s. You engine will always be misfiring, and throwing all kinds of Codes.

I basically had to do the same thing. I had an MS3 cam and the car was tuned for it but I swapped it out for a comp 222/222 cam. I took it to have it dyno tuned but the previous tuner locked the tune so I had to buy a new/used PCM. I drove the car for about 10 days with the wrong tune. The car drove fine but I just made sure I kept it under 4000 RPMs.
