Corvette fuel rail covers: How to install on Camaro
I really like the way the corvette fuel rail covers look on the 4th gen Camaro.
I have a 02 SS that I'd like to install some fuel rail covers on. I searched but couldn't find a write up on how to modify them to fit. Can someone please explain what I have to do in order to get them to fit? Thanks!!

Custom -- $210
DIY custom -- $95
I think all you have to do is cut holes for the fuel rail, and then you're good to go

I never done them myself. But I know you have to make cuts on the back of the driver side cover to clear the air pump hoses. If you look at the link posted above you can get an idea of the cuts that are needed. Then I believe they just clip to the fuel rail

From another thread:
The noted link was : http://www.gmpartshouse.com/partslis...parts-list.php.
If you can do a good solid "How-to Tutorial," noting where exactly you had to cut and documenting everything with step-by-step photographs, I don't see why it wouldn't get added to The Appearance Hall of Fame.
Yes, the 97-98 units have the two slots which fit better on the LSx-based F-body application.
From the website noted above:
12559261 - '97-'98 LH Fuel Rail Cover (Black With Red "Corvette" Lettering)
12556455 - '97-'98 RH Fuel Rail Cover (Black With Red "Corvette" Lettering)
Both FRC’s - $70.58
I buy them from my local GM dealer cheaper than that, but I go thru quite a few.
Your local GM dealer will match that price above if you show them the webpage GM info.
Modifications depends on any mod's in the engine bay, ...
Still have the EGR & AIR?
Then you should do some cuts in the back to easily route around the tubing & wire bundles.
You have to relieve for the throttle cable bracket.
Some people cut the whole front corner out, but I prefer to simply cut a slot on the ones I've made. That way you retain the front curve of the cover that matches the other side.
Some people cut a notch for the oil dipstick, I prefer to cut a hole & bend the dipstick tube to mate up to it.
Do a Google search, or a Webshots search for Fuel Rail Covers & start cuttin', ...

I'm with s8er95z, I'm going to do my headers first and ditch the AIR junk. Then I'll chop these up to fit. Post some pictures if you get a chance. Thanks!

fuel rail covers
after reading below from an ebay auction listing. in an above reply the poster states that the 97-98 covers fit better. the seller states below that they (97-98)don t fit at all. has anyone installed the early covers on a 99+ application?
(1) Corvette engines are slightly different than Camaro/Firebird engines. The first difference is the front drive accessories (not related to the fitment of the covers). The second difference is that Corvettes use an electrical throttle, not cable operated (that's why the covers need to be notched, to clear the throttle cable bracket). The 3rd difference is that Corvette engines don't use an EGR system, they have different exhaust manifolds, and an intake w/o the front EGR hole. The last difference is that 97-98 Corvette engines use a fuel rail with a feed and return line, the 99-present Corvette engines (including 98-02 Camaro/Firebird) use a single feed line (the pump is regulated for pressure and there is no return line), that's why 97-98 Corvette covers have 2 slots (2 fuel lines), and 99+ have 1 slot (1 fuel line). In fact the fuel rail is the same 99+ Corvette and 98-02 Camaro/Firebird. All LS1 engines have the fuel tank vent line (which everyone mistakes for a fuel line), it actually sits UNDER the cover).
(2) 97-98 Corvette and 98 Camaro/Firebird use perimeter bolt valve covers, in which the coil packs are bolted directly to the valve/rocker cover. 99+ LS1 engines have center bolt valve covers, and each coil is mounted to a central bracket that is bolted to the valve cover (to make repairs easier). Because of this, the coil studs are in different locations. 99+ covers are snap on 99+ engines, 97-98 cover snap onto 97-98 engines. There is no cover specifically for the 98 Camaro/Firebird LS1 since the fuel rail is the 99+ Corvette variety and uses the older valve covers. SORRY.

What I did was cut the foil looking tape for the fuel lines to split the lines away from eachother. And popped the covers right on. Takes a little moving around to push the little hooks into place.
Very easy to install. Driver side was tougher for me than the passenger
Dont forget to take out the dipstick for oil, and the oil cap

i bought mine from afterthoughts.com. the diy ones. fabbing up your own takes alot of cutting/fitting/cutting some more. they are pre cut using a template, fit real well and clean cuts. they come with detailed instructions. basically bend the trans tube up a bit, take off your oil filler cap, undo the fuel line heat wrap and unclip the wires on the intake. it takes some massaging to get them to fit but its not bad. ill post up some pics in a sec.
