Default Back to the basic questions...

Hello all, been a while...

I have a buddy that is selling me his set of 5.3 heads. I was originally looking for a set of ls6 ones and have them Ported and polished, But he says the 5.3 ported and polished would be alot better due to compression.
Im not very familiar with the whole heads set up, so i come to you guys to get some guidance, and what will i run into with either ls6 heads or a 5.3, both being ported and polished.

Also, will my stock heads worth doing a polish and port job? Incase i dont go with either the ones mentioned.

Thx,

what are the head casting numbers of the heads your friend is selling ,and the of the heads you currently have ?have you got a quote for ported heads ?also you will need a valve job.you can get some 5.3 heads for free.have you looked at TSP heads ?it mite be cheaper then paying some one to port your heads.

you can mill ls6 heads for $60 bucks to match compression of 5.3 heads or beat them in that department...

plus the ls6 heads flow very well for stock castings already..

I'm confused again. Thought it b cheaper to just pnp some 5.3 n be good. Ill b calling tsp today n see options.

On the other hand, another trusted buddy, is selling his 3800 vig stall. With trans cooler, for 400. With one free flash by vig that ends in nov.
He upgraded to a 400, after his clutch pack when out n ruined his trans.
Shop claims stall is good not damaged. But recommend flush to clean out particles.

Should i jump on that deal, and would 3800 b too much for my set up?

I was going to go with a 3600 stall for my ls6 heads/custom cam set up... so 3800 seems right on par depending on gears...

do you want quarter mile performance?, highway top speed, or in the middle..

2002 t56 came with 342 gears, yours might be 323.

its a trans am right? check your door jam and I believe GU5 is 323 gears like i had, 273 gears is GU3...

342 gears would be a good balance, I was going with 373 gears to match my 3600 stall

but I wanted more stop light to stop light action, because in orange county, ca there is too much traffic on the freeway to ever go over 65 unless your driving at midnight...

some stock 243/799 heads with a good valve job and good springs will make some good power.but if you can afford and want ported heads look at TSP.like stated above you can mill heads for cheap.

I called tsp, they come out to over 1300 with shipping and tax.

There has to be something cheaper.
