the stock rear ends are nice....if its a WS6 auto or an M6 all together either way they are nice...if you want to have the BEST ACCELERATION....get a new one....4.10-4.11's the WS6 auto has 3.23's much quicker then many people wiht the M6 and stock gears off the line...the pull in 2nd and 3rd gear make the difference i think...a Higher Stall can make the auto come more to life and beat the M6's....now if its just a T/A without the sport package i beleive....youw ill have a 2.73 rear end....mmmoooost if not all people say its crap! 1st gear is slowwww....so all depends on what you get also'

hope that helsp and made sense

No if you get an SS or WS6 the auto (a4) comes standard with a 3.23 and Manual (M6) comes with 3.42 gears. Both are GREAT gears.

Most z28's and regular TA's came with 2.73 gears. However, people did have the option to choose for the bigger gears. Check the drivers door sticker for a Gu5 (3.23) marking or a GU6 (3.42). Hope this helps.

nope you have it backwards if im not mistaken....the 98-99 (possibly 00 im not sure) have very little or no problem with oil consumption while the 01-02 tends to drink a quart or so per change....i know my 98 doesnt drink a drop and my friends 01 loses around 1.25-1.5 quarts per 3000 miles....i know a lot of other cars that are the same as his...all 01-02s.....thats not to say that ALL 01-02s consume oil...i THINK they changed the rings at some point in the last 2 years of production to deal with the problem.

Don't know if you car about this, but the vert TA's didn't get the larger TA spoiler that the t-tops did.

Right on.

Actually my question about the rear end was not the gear ratio so much as just busting. I was wondering if I'm going to need a built rear end if I'm not doing crazy launches on slicks.

I'll be going for very high street legal horsepower, but just running it on the street.

Street tires with an auto and you will be fine...but you will be spinning all the time, but that is what will be saving the rear end.
