advice needed for a rookie's ls1 bottom end
Hi guys ,
I have had my ls1 for 2 years now and a lt1 camaro before that for 10years .
so I am no newbie to camaros but I am to the ls1 motor it self .
usually I find all info by searching . could not find this one . really appreciate your help .
My ls1 has 60K miles on it and I wanna do a preventive bottom end refresh .
I read some horror stories about the stock con rods bolts etc . ohh I live on a island with no acces to a decent machine shop . I have a lot of experience with building race motorcycle engines .
what do you guys recommend for rebuilding the bottom end ?
I would not mind buying forged rods but I have no way to balance my crank .
are there rods out there I can use on the stock crank .
please help me out guys
appreciate it
thx

If this is of any help to you man, with 60k, there is no point in refreshing anything right now if there is nothing wrong with your bottom end. There are people on here with 100k+ on their stock bottom end that race/beat on their car regularly and they have no major issues. Also, with a good tune, the right spark plugs and proper fueling, a 100 shot of nitrous is completely safe for your stock bottom end, some people even run 150, hell some push it even farther and still do fine.

Now we're getting more details on what has all been done but still IMO your
completely wasting time and money by messing with the lower end. As some
have stated perhaps rod bolt change which many argue requires rehoning the
big end for oversized(.002") bearings and others state just remove one at a
time, oil on the threads, extreme pressure lube under the head, retorque, and
move on. Guess that could require some research and ultimately flippin a coin.
Plenty magazines have taken junkyard (unknown miles) LS engines and made
600 plus horsepower with power adders and no lower end issues at all.
I've spoken to people who had a new engine ready to go and literally tried
killing their stock LS with 200-250 shots of NOS and couldn't. Just trying to
save ya some time and money.

The island I live on is very small. the ls1 has more then enough power .
I just want to keep it going strong it dynoed at 350hp at the wheels
Thats why i want to keep a stock bottom end
