If you go with a GMMG, you won't be able to use an X pipe.
With a GMMG, you'll need a Y pipe. If you want to do true dual, then you'll need the x.
and what BWW said.

The exhaust system on our cars goes from the manifolds into a Y pipe (single pipe) and into a cross-flow muffler with dual tips.
If you want to get rid of the cats, just go ahead and get headers. Then if you want, you can use a x and make a true dual system with a pair of bullet style mufflers and dump it before the axle.

Sounds like you're set on the GMMG.
FWIW, I like my Magnaflow alot. It osunds great, but nice and mellow till youget on it. Cruising o nthe highway is as quiet as stock, but it sounds much better pulling away from a stop.
And IMO a K&N is a waste of money. There's no real benefit to them, they just have a good marketing dept. If you aa reuseable filter, go with the one from Amsoil. It'll filter better, and you don't have to mess with oiling it.

Got GMMG on my 00 Z28. Had flowmaster and hooker before that. Heard Borla on several friend's LSXs and like it a lot, but I won't get anything but GMMG for myself now that I've had it. If I couldn't get GMMG because zombies destroyed the warehouse....then Borla.

Actually thats not true, modding a GMMG to accept an x is rather simple. OP you can get the GMMG and cut off the merge that happens over the axle. So cut right where the pipe splits from 1 3 inch into dual 2.5 inch pipes. Then you have 2 bends welded on to go over the axle and down to the stick i pipe location. Take an ORY of your choice, cut off the merge, weld on a 3 inch x pipe. Connect the pipes and you are done

Yea, but that's already modifying something to fit where it wasn't designed to. So, to use a GMMG PROPERLY, you need a Y.
Who the hell wants to chop up a $700 catback anyways?

yes i did toss the LM1 for the dynomax. it sounds so much better to me than it did. i had slp lm1 on my goat too, and i regretted it. plus i dont like having the same **** as everyone else if i dont have to. i am sure others have dynomax , but not as many. alot of my f body buddies have flows, thrush, hushpower, magnaflow, you name it, and mine still sounds among the wickedest. the only thing id trade it for is the kooks true dual stainless kit.

I would all day, because when you think about it an ORY is what $150? The 2.5 x pipe is another $40 tops. So with labor you are looking at around $1100 tops to splice in the x and connect that to the catback, so you now have a 2.5 inch TD over the axle system. Id pay the extra $$ but thats just me
