Parasitic loss of converter
I put this in the dyno section and have like 200 views with no responses so hopefully more people will see it and can post their experiences here.
I should soon be getting a custom torque converter built by FTI. Greg has set me up with a custom job but he has been secretive on the specs of it. He said it will fall between his SRLS0082 3200 stall speed offering and his SRLS0086 3600 stall offering. I know the 0082 has a higher STR than the 0086 does. I chose not to get my car tuned after my exhaust upgrades so I have no idea what it would be making had I gotten a tune, but I was wondering if those of you who have dyno'ed their stalled A4's can give me an idea as to how much lower the RWHP/RWTQ numbers will be that are shown on the dyno with a converter around this size (it's a 9.5" billet lockup btw).
Car set-up at the time of dyno will be:
1999 Formula (stock 4L60E, stock LS1 intake/tb, stock 10-bolt 2.73 gears, 26k miles)
ARH 1-7/8" LT's
ARH 3" ORY
Borla catback (open)
SLP Lid
EGR!/AIR!
Suspension/Chassis work - LCA's, PHB, STB, SFC's
Custom Converter w/ trans cooler

As far as rwhp/tq loss... I dynoed 365rwhp/364tq with cam only and shorty headers, with stock trans. Once the 3800 stall and built trans went in, I made335rwhp/309Tq.
Quick math, I lost 30rwhp, and 55lbTQ... Which is a big loss, and does feel a lil bad when you looked at those numbers.
These numbers completely changed once my LT's and ORY went in.
Hope this helps

yeah, my car has lt headers, ORY catted, ls6 intake and only made 301 on a dyno after the stall was installed. dont know what my stock power level was before the stall but did 14.0 @ 100mph 1/4mile stock form. get back to ya at what i could do now once i get to a good prepped track.

Haha nice! I guess it's kind of just an ego thing, like obviously track times are what is more important and lower the better but there's just something about seeing higher numbers that I'd like. If I could see 425rwhp out of a H/C setup with the converter I'd be happy. Right now I'm just bolt-ons though and won't be doing the engine mods for a while, I want a house first! But with the bolt-on's I'd like to keep it over 300rwhp
