I had my steering wheel replaced, due to a imperfection in the leather, about a month ago. Today I excellerated rather briskly and the center of the steering wheel-air bag unit-fell into my lap. It did NOT go off. The dealer wants me to bring it in to look at and to make sure it will not deploy unexpectanly. I just lined up the two prongs on the unit and pushed it back into place. Has anyone had a experience like that? Is it really necessary to have the dealer look at it?

Something isn't right, and an airbag isn't something you just want to take a chance on. If that thing fell in your lap and went off, you'd be having a very bad day. Take it back to the dealership and let them take care of it. It's not like it will cost you anything...just your time.

I think you'll be fine for the time being. Airbags do t go off because the outside gets touched, if the did then when you honked your horn your have a face full of airbag. It's just the dress up decal on the steering wheel. If your airbag goes off for anything other than getting hit you could sue the **** out of vette.
