Default high mileage 98 z28 m6

Picked up a 98 z28 m6 for next to nothing. I want to start modding. But is it worth doing cam n heads on the motor since its got 200k? Oil pressure is amazing. Runs good. Or should i just do strickly bolt ons till the motor kicks the bucket?

well the motor probably isnt going to kick the bucket to be honest.. but you wont get the money back out of your mods, do your bolt ons first and then decide if its enough. If you want more do H/C/I, maybe some spray. If it DOES take a huge fart? Stroke it to a 383!

If it dies im gonna do a 6.0 bottom end or a good strong factory bottom end for boost, im thinking.but ill do full bolt ons n gears. N buy a sho t block n build it on the side. Im not gonna spray, i want to truck manifold single turbo it. But im not even gonna attempt it on this engine.

do a leak down or a compression check.consider some new rod bolts, kaltech or new GM bolts.

I say drive it as is, as a DD, and mod a different car.

Almost 170K on my Z28, and I am considering putting my Z06 Cam in it when I put my custom grind in the Z06. Should be fine as long as it's been maintained. Depends what your budget is, if you can afford it go ahead and refresh the motor for peace of mind

mileage is not a good indicator of codition , while it surely attributes to it 1800 rpm at 65 on the highway for 200k is a lot easier than delivering pizzas for 200k lol

of the 3 ls1 4th gens I own the nicest one by far is my m6 2000z , 234,000 miles , been full bolt ons for a long time , cracked 11.9's in its only track trip at 215k ish. If the car got wrecked I wouldnt hesitate to throw the engine in another car as is. its the one with the vette wheels front and center in my sig pic.

In the past I have owned many high miles gm vehicles including an 85 pickup with 345k and a 95 tahoe with 250k , a regal gs supercharged with full bolt ons and 220K neither engine ever had a valve cover off. buy or build a spare but dont be surprised if the one thats in the car lasts many more miles.

Truth, if it's taken care of it will last forever. My 97 tahoe had 230K, my 98 trans am I sold to another member on here has 16xK and still on the original motor and rear end, runs 11's and traps 115 at the strip.
