LS1 Max Horsepower

LS1 Max Horsepower
I posted this on the "LT" before I relased it was the wrong section for this engine question. I figured I would try repost here since most of you senior members probably check this more often.
I was wondering as far as LS1/LS6 engines go and if someone had an unlimited budget what is the maximum horsepower you could get out of one? Could you realistically get 1000 or more? if not and to remain a "daily driver" what would be a realistic horsepower range. It is important with the first part of this question about the horsepower as I am researching for an article.
Second question is about the 1/4 mile times. Same question but in order to have a Car run low "9's or high 8's" and keep it drivable with pump gas can this be done and what would "you" do to the engine to get it there?
Thanks again guys

The April 2004 issue of Hot road did a "Worlds most extreme LS1's" The Fastest naturally aspirated was 538 hp 9.65 @ 139.21mph and was registered and "driven on occasion"
THe Fastest Heads-and-cam only didn't say how much HP but it did 10.5 @128 mph on pump gas and was streeet-legal.
THe fastest 6-speed was 484 hp and 680hp with nitrous and 9.88 @144 mph. The Fastest period is a 1181 hp super charged convertible that does 8.52 @163.43 mph. It has nitrous also but the 1181HP is without nitrous.

Thanks for all of your input, we do have a budget but we don't want that to be the determining factor to have it done right. What we are wanting to do is pull a V12 from a real Lamborghini Diablo or Murcielago and put in an American drive train that will beat the specs of the original car. The project is fully funded along with partner vendors, donations and advertisers, but first it is up to me to see IF it can be done and what engine to choose. We would like to stay with a SBC and the LS6 is the best... right?? my other option is a Ford... I am completly open to suggestions because once we do determin the best senerio, will will probably look for the best engine builder you all can recommend and comission them to build the "beast".
Thanks

for MAX power and real streetability, i would say one guy has it all the way...............
JOHN LINGINFELTER... 427 fully built, and twin tubos... more streetable then all out power...but how does 0-60 in 1.97sec sound....150+ mph quarters...and smog legal (in texas) i think that combo make like 700 hp and that is for the street!
im sure that motor could take a couple more pounds of boost and a liitle 150 shot and make 850+ hp and still be drivable.
call GEN 3 performance! there a sponcer here! tell him ''M6huggerSS'' sent you!
he builds 427 LS1 motors that make 650-700 hp! thats all motor!!!! then strap on a blower or juice and youll hit 800!!!!
FYI....GEN 3 has coustom made a manifold to strap a 8-71 blower to a 427 LS1......$$

Welcome to the site Kit Car Magazine.
As you know, the 1/4-mile times will be highly dependent on your traction/suspension setup, as well as your raceweight. If you are talking about putting this engine in an exotic car (probably on low profile 19s-20s), its going to take alot more power to get into the 9s due to traction.
Also, are you open to power adder engines, or just naturally aspirated?
All-motor, then we are talking 650-700 rwhp with a fully built C5-R 427ci, with high compression and alot of custom parts. Not street friendly. Figure 525-550 rwhp from a pump gas darton sleeved 427ci LS6, with a street friendly cam. You could crest 600 rwhp with a solid roller cam and higher compression.
As for power adder setups, you can realistically make as much power as you can afford. Start with the C5-R block ($6K alone, bare) and you have a good foundation for over 1000 rwhp with your choice of nitrous, huge blower, or turbos.
So many combos out there for LSX engines, we have a broad spectrum of parts.
