Default 2001 vs. 2002

I was just wondering if there are any major differences between a 2001 SS and a 2002 SS??

There are some minor differences but nothing huge

I think for 2001 cars, people complained about oil consumption or something. I don't have that problem on mine though

Biggest difference is probably the 35th Anny package you can get. Both 2001 and 2002 cars have a chance at an LS6 block

oil consumption was only in 98, or atleast the big problems, the 01-02 ls1 engines were identical

huh? what is this major oil consumption problem in 98's your talking about?

I know the 98 pumps were questionable, but the oil consumption problems i have heard about have been 99+ for the most part.

My 98, doens't drink any, neither does the other 3 98's i know locally. All the 99+ cars do.

well the '98's were the ones with the different pcv system right. i have talked to quite a few people that changed it out and solved the problem, not all have the problem, i have owned a 98 99 and 01, my 98 is the only one that used oil, and its wasnt bad, my 01 dont use any, and i drive it really hard

2001 and 2002 could both be had with an aluminum drive shaft and 3.23 gears or a steal drive shaft and 2.73 gears. The base auto for both years comes with a steal driveshaft and 2.73 gears. Selecting the performance rear option got you the aluminum driveshaft and 3.23 gears.

Thats funny because my 02 TA has 2.73's with an aluminum DS. I just had it up to put the GMMG on and we looked at the DS and it is definitely aluminum.

most ls1 have oil consumtion problems. This is becuase of the whole clearance piston issue and piston slap. S omething that should have been resolve by 2002 with the new piston coating they came up with.
