Default Gaping hole in A4 tranny

Had the car lifted to get the joints welded on my catback. When I was inspecting my headers I was alarmed to see this large open hole in the bell housing for the transmission. You will see it just to the right of the oil filter in the image.

It obviously belongs there but I'm wondering if there was a plug or something that may have fallen off? Seems like SOMETHING should be there; I don't know a lot about transmissions but a big gaping hole in the bell housing does not seem normal...

Thanks guys!

Yep, it's just missing an inspection cover. Those just pop right into place.
