Default Buying Firehawk-good deal?

Hey everyone!

I need your help.

I've been looking to but a 00-02 trans am with ram air when I came across this car: A 2001 Sunset Orange Formula Firehawk. It's a 6 speed, one of only 2 orange hardtops made. It's got SLP longtube headers, SLP loudmouth exhaust, and 85mm maf. The gentleman says it's never been driven in winter, and has all documentation. 24,000 miles. He's asking $24,000.

Is this a good deal? If not, what should I offer?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I would love to have a SOM Formula Firehawk 6-speed, but with T-tops. Price seems a bit high even though the car is badass. For example, I picked up my 35th SS convertible 6-speed with every single SLP option (original sticker was $39.5K) and I only paid $25,400 with a low 11K miles on it.

I'd offer him $22K if you really like the car.

are you crazy of coarse that is a great deal. my buddy just got a 95 firehawk with 30,000 miles on it for 12,000, it was bluebooked after he bought it for 21,000! go with it, all it will do is go up in value!

I completely agree...if you like it offer what you think is fair compared to the blue book value. It is rare option but as far as a bluebook price it does not increase the actual value. Because a hard top formula is cheaper than a t-top T.A

I doubt, very much, if it is indeed one of two hardtops. If "no t-tops" is what you meant. I have the final production numbers for 2002, and am looking for the other years as well. I know I have them, probably on my computer that my son has at college--we have to buy another everytime one of the kids leave. You can also go to SLPeng.com and ask them how many were made that year, in that color. I would guess more like 1 of 150, maybe 1 of 75 hardtops (meaning, I assume, no t-tops). Most of the cars were t-tops, especially 2002. Check out that website they can tell you right away, in the meantime I will look.

I have seen used fbodies, priced very low right now, here in the KC area. But that is dealers taking trades, and driving down the resale market. If the car is clean, and well cared for, it certainly is a good buy. You can always second guess yourself, but that is usually when you loose out on a great buy.

But I think that is a great deal, especially for a Firehawk. I have a 2000 Formula and a 2002 Formula Firehawk. Of course, I like to think the Firehawk is still worth $28K to $30K, but it's not. It will be someday, again worth that, but I will have to wait 25 years or so. In the meantime, prices go down, sometimes unreasonably too much. The Firehawk is the rarest of the Firebirds, if it's clean, and it good working condition, it is a great buy.

Just don't second guess yourself after you buy it, if you see them cheaper in the paper. You just don't know what kind of condition they might be in, those that are advertised in the dealer ads for very low prices, without going and looking at them. My experience has been, if you go look at a low priced one, there is always a reason for it. Higher mileage, dents, scratches, or maybe an interior that looks like twice the number of miles the odometer shows. Always is something.

Hope to welcome you to the club.
JC

I don't doubt that there were only two optioned out that way, but I wouldn't really base a majority of my decision on that. Doesn't seem like a bad price. Just as a kind of apples to oranges comparison. I bought my 02 Formula new for 25,100, probably paid about 3000 in interest before I paid it off. Bought a set of Firehawk wheels and KDW tires ($2000). Bought the blackwing lid (about $320), bought a GMMG Exhaust (about 750). I'm at about 31,170 invested. I don't have the Firehawk hood, which would probably cost me another 2K if I could get my hands on one. So I would be at about 33K for a car which has everything similar to a Firehawk which matters to me (if I got the hood). I imagine the Firehawk in question probably cost the original owner about that, maybe less especially if he/she didn't pay a lot in interest, so what is a fair milage deduction. Don't know, but 24K is tempting (I personally don't care for SOM, but can see how others would), I wonder if you could get him down to 22?
Regards,
John

Just to add to my previous post. I have 3700 miles on my car and don't think I could 24K for it, so go figure, the Firehawk rarity must be worth a premium.

You can always get the vin number and run it by SLP and just get them to verify that indeed it is a Firehawk.
Good luck with the purchase! You won't be sorry!

Thanks! But, after looking at it I decided to continue to look for a black 00/02 TA WS6 6M. That color isn't for me.

He isn't a part of your club anymore? From what I've seen it IS mint!!

I'm going to stick with black, though. I don't want to stand out in the crowd

sounds like Rudy's car? If it is Rudy's (SOM Formula Firehawk in Wisconsin) then I can tell you that the car was very well cared for ... I've seen it many times in the past, it's a gorgeous car.
