They are both thin 30wt oils. The 0w30 Syntec is very close to being a 0w40. And yes, I've seen amazing oil analysis results on every car I've run it in so far, and other people's oil analysis results with this oil have also looked very good, it's yet to post a bad report.

So far it's only available in Autozone in the US, or Walmart in Canada (and some Canadian Tire stores)

Look for the made in Germany label on the back, not the older US made 0w30 Syntec.
Yep..The front label that reads 0W-30 is in RED (germany)....the other one that is made in the USA is in YELLOW....both read 0W-30....but you want to get the one with the red label.....I bought it the other day at Autozone and they only had 5 quartz of it.....so I asked the salesperson to see if he could check for more out back but found none.......Then he claimed the one with the yellow label (0W-30) was the same thing only they had changed labels.......which I obviously didn't believe, He insisted I take the yellow label one (made in USA)...but I didn't.... so I just took five qts.(Germany) and went to go look for another quart at another Autozone.........The stuff has a greenish color to it !!....They don't sell it at O'Reilly, Pepboys, or even Walmart....That is because I looked there first and the only place that I know that sells it for now is Autozone.....for about $4.99 a pop!!......

......Thanx to Patman!!!

But not all Red labels are German made. I got 6quarts at the Zone and went back the next monday after they got the shipment in, and the new redlabel was made in the USA.
I'm trying to get them to order a couple cases so I can hopefully find the good stuff.

Yes, be careful, as there was a short run of red labelled US made Syntec, so make sure you check the back of the bottle for the "made in Germany" on it!

Just to clarify, It reads on the back made in Germany, distributed in NJ below the made in Germany statement. Correct?

BMW LL-01

Is there a certain oil that you guys recommend if the car is driven in a colder climate. I am from Nebraska and the car will sometimes however rare see temperatures down in the 30's.

Patman, how much of an advantage is the K&N oil filter over say a wix? Since the K&N costs like three times as much.

It's not sleeping at all, it's my daily driver! And it's been great to drive, I'm having so much fun with it! I've put over 10k on it since I got it in August.

This winter has been pretty good here, only a few minor storms, and during those days I was able to drive over to my parent's house just before the storms and borrow my mom's VW. The C5 handles an inch or two of snow no problem, even with the runflats. I've found a new local detail shop which does a great handwash for only $10 so I go there every Saturday to keep the car in mint shape. You'll never know this car was winter driven by the way I keep it so clean. And it's engine will last forever thanks to the use of German Castrol

German Castrol 0w30 would be perfect! It flows extremely well in the cold. My engine has seen some -10F starts this winter and it turns over very easily, it doesn't sound labored at all, since this oil flows so well. So 30F is a piece of cake. To be honest, a 5w30 oil would still work well at 30F, since that's really not all that cold.

If you don't go full throttle very often, then the Wix will do you just fine. But for those of you who do like to open her up a lot, the K&N is a real benefit to you since this oil filter will flow so much more oil.

Patman, much appreciated. Looks like I'll be running German Castrol 0w30 with a K&N filter.

Purolator's regular filters flow pretty well, just stay away from their PureONEs, which are very restrictive to flow.

I use M1 but I think i'm going to switch to the castrol german made 0w30.

I use to run the m1 filter. the stock size was way to small so I used the m1 206, however I noticed when comparing to an AC delco filter, that the delco flows better, I'v been using the truck PF59 since then. Anybody else use delco's?
