Default New Here Need Help With a Build

Hello all, I'm new to the forum but no completly new to cars. I have been out of cars and drag racing for about 10-12 years and wanna get back in now. My previous cars were a 79 camaro with a 406 on spray, 91 GMC syclone, 95 mustang with a 347. I'm getting back into the game now and man how it has changed. I'm gonna do a ls swap into a 70-73 split bumper camaro. I'm looking for the right car now. In the mean time I'm gonna start with the drive line. Thers so many different options from what I can see and read on here. What I want to accomplish is somewhere in the neighborhood of 550-600 horse on the motor alone. At the moment I really wanna stay away from power adders. I was wondering the best block and crank to start with? What base would you build off? I would like to start buying those parts now. Tranny I'm not sure on yet but almost certian it will be automatic. Thanks in advance for any replies. This will not be a drag car. It will be a healthy street car. Thanks again

At the crank. The budget for the motor alone probably be around 6k maybe more. I'm kinda interested in the 6.ol platform. I'm completely lost on ls motors right now. I need to know what vehicles I need to look into for donor motors.

Check out some of the sponsers ---------------->

You can pick up a bored and stroked 6.0L ( 402-408 CI ) motor for $3,500-4,000. That with a good set of heads, intake and exhaust and you should be in the 550hp range. I would suggest making up your mind if your going to add boost or go gas to the motor before you put together a long block. I've seen alot of people build a high compression motor for spray and then changing heads or pistons for forced induction.
