Default Ls1 newbie question

Are ls motor internal parts interchangeable like cams intake manifold and throttle body. I was wondering if i can buy parts from newer generation ls motor to put on my ls1 to gain extra horses and be able to pass smog still? I live in California and just want to put a little more grunt to my wife's 2003 corvette automatic w/o messing with smog. Thanks guys.

Some are and some aren't. LS6 parts would your best bet, if you're planning to stay with gm parts. The cam and heads are good upgrades on an LS1. Your car came stock with an LS6 intake manifold. You can use some gen IV parts like LS7 lifters, etc. But LS3 or LS7 heads wouldn't work with an LS6 intake manifold due to the port shape of the heads, for example. Best bet would be to research on here to decide what you want and search to see which particular parts are compatible.
