title says it all. No one has been able to determine what the cause is. It sounds like it's coming from my differential but I was told by a differential specialist that there is nothing in the differential that could cause a screeching noise. I called a transmission specialist and they told me they've never heard of it although it is possible but needs to be duplicated. Problem is it doesn't always happen so it's very hard to duplicate in front of a automotive shop. Any suggestions on what this might be? I have a 1998 Trans Am stock engine and transmission.

Check the U-joints real close they can screech when the bearings have turned to dust.
You may need to take the shaft down to see if they are binding.
I would check Axel bearings also.
