Spend my money! "Best" way to get to 400-450 HP? '01 WS6 A4.

Hey Matt, what's going on? I saw this and figured I'd throw in my two cents. Don't get me wrong, I love my heads/cam setup. It really woke the car up and it makes a ton of power, but there really isn't a whole lot of "room to grow". Yeah, I can get an intake and TB setup and push out some more power, but in order to really step it up, I'd need to toss on a Nitrous kit on the existing setup or build a big *** stroker. If you think you're always going to be satisfied with a heads/cam/intake setup, then go for it. But, if you're like me, and a lot of others on here, the power bug bites and you're left wanting more. Most then step up to a turbo build. If I had it to do all over again, I would have just done a tubo build from the beginning. I've been looking at some of the kits and the On3Performance kit looks good, but there are not a lot of results or feedback on it. The price is the most appealing aspect of it for sure. Plus, you could always opt for the kit, minus the turbo, and put on a better turbo that will allow you to make more power. If you decide to keep it N/A, you're going to need headers for sure, plus all the other stuff like heads, cam, all the valve train components, etc. That stuff adds up quick and in all honesty, you could do a turbo build for less. Either way you go, good luck. Best advice I can give you is really think it over and make 100% sure it's what you want to do.

Call Straightline performance in New Lennox. Nick is a great mechanic and they do custom in house turbo kits as well. They are a sponsor here too.
H/C is fun but these guys are right....you will probably want more power 2 weeks after your install just like I did. But a 100-150 shot on top of that is a pretty potent combo....LS1s love dope.

Statements like these make me want to go to straitline since its closer and cheaper, but I have hear some things about them that I don't like. Same goes for speed inc tho. I'm at a total loss of who to take my car to so I can have my heads put on and a cam specd out.

Every shop is going to have complaints....its how they handle them that counts. I personally haven't had issues with them. I've had to bring my car back a couple times for tuning tweaks but they have no problem adjusting it for me. I just had them tune my car and install my clutch.....did my own H/C. They did put a cam in my best friends 5th gen and he was happy.

To the OP. I have a 2001 SS Camaro M6. I ended up getting PRC Stage 2.5 5.3L P/P Heads with a Torquer V3 Cam and upgraded to 35lbs FAST injectors. Also threw in Kooks 1 3/4 stepped 1 7/8 LT's and it cost me around $3400 Plus $600 for a tune. Everybody I have talked to and other people who have done simular builds have posted way higher numbers than what mine came out. But I im sitting at 381rwhp. I've seen a lot of people posting 420rwhp. I'm thinking its the tune. Good luck in your search.

02 WS6 Trans Am and used it to develop our LS1 X-Package. With nothing more than our engineered combination of external bolt-ons and plenty of dyno tuning the car made 400.7 rwhp and 401.6 rwtq. This is the first and only bolt-ons only LS1 in the world to get to 400 rwhp. We call this engineered combination of bolt-ons the X package. To learn more about this LS1 world record check out the X-Package page

Good call on the route you're going. There will be a noticeable improvement in power there and heads would be the next logical choice to compliment that setup once you get the itch for more power. The head swap on top of that will feel like a massive gain!
I went with a "budget" N/A setup and once I decided that wasn't enough anymore just slapped a N2O kit on it.

Exactly what I did. I went with the SI5 too and had speed inc do the install. It's a nice cam, and has some lope to it but not to radical. If you did your header install your self you'd definitely save some dough to be spent elsewhere.
