I have a 99 ls1 Camaro, when I start the car should the check engine light come on then go off? mine doesn't. Just wondering if the previous owner removed the bulb.

It should turn on with the rest of the gauge cluster lights when you cycle the key to the on position (engine off), but it should shut off right when the key is moved to the "start" position, along with the other lights. At that point it should not come back on while the engine is running unless there is a fault that commands the MIL.

 

Thank you. The light does not come on at all. The car runs fine but I will remove the cluster this weekend to see if the bulb is removed.
