Welcome to the forum. 01 and on LS1's had LS6 intakes which make them a little better. However all LS1 are great motors. If you find one that runs wells for a decent price I'd go ahead and bite on it, regardless of year.

the 2000-02 ls1 is good .are you looking for a iron block motor ,or a aluminum block motor ?do you want a 4.8, 5.3, 5.7 ,or a 6.0 ?do you plan to use a ECM or do a stand alone system like the 1 edelbrock sells .it has a intake and a ignition system .check out the conversion section . check Texas Speed or the WS6 store for parts you mite need .

Please check the FAQ sticky in this section, as well as trying a search on this topic. It has been covered extensively. There are advantages and disadvantages to each, depending on your goals and priorities.
Also, check out the Conversions & Hybrids section for info on LSx swaps into older/other vehicles.
