My 5.3L Build Ls1 Intake With Truck Accessories..
So I picked up my 5.3L off a 2000 Silverado with 99k at the yard for $450 this weekend and went straight to work, been reading alot on other forums about the parts imma need to convert over to make it work like ( 5th gen camaro pump, vette belt tensioner etc etc), theres so much info out there, but i thought id do it on my own..
Alot of people are saying that the ls1 intake will not fit correctly with truck accessories due to the idler pully position and the throttle body hitting the side of alternator bracket and the water neck in the way of the throttle.. so heres my little mods i did, and so far so good, hope this helps others..
So u can see the idler pulley in the way of throttle..
Heres where i cut:
Heres where it clears the water neck with alittle rubber hammer action:
Heres what it looks like cut:
Heres where i relocated the idler pulley, just spaces it out with washers and a pipe of pipe i had lying around from an old alternator braket i had lol:
Here it is done:
Of course this is just a mock up, , still gonna get new water pump, belt pully, powder coat some stuff..also gonna tear down to paint the block, and clean it up real good..and updating my Cam maybe Z06 cam...Tell me what you guys think

Wow thanks. You gave me some great ideas. I never would have though about the steam tube until it was in the way.
I have a 2000 5.3 and its getting the LS6 intake. My water pump is shot so I am going to used the f-body pump and the dirty dingo water pump spacers to space it out to the truck accessories and I already got the dirty dingo pulley relocation bracket. Other than that I am going to be doing exactly what you have done and yours looks pretty good!
A couple of questions for you... Your intake looks glossy but still looks good. Did you paint it? My LS6 intake is scratched to hell and needs some paint. Second, What coil packs are you running? Those look different than the coils that came on my 5.3. I also see you have the stud on the coil pack bracket that the fuel rail covers press on too, my 5.3 has no stud. I'd like to know what you did there.

Yea i got the VHT engine paint that they sell at you local autoparts store and went at it...painted the block, intake, brackets, valve covers etc etc..alot of people wont use it on plastic, but hey it works great!! dosent chip, stick on real good...i see it this way, if its going in the engine bay it should be painted with engine paint lol..
Actually those are the same coil packs that came with the 5.3L, as far as the studs not sure which ones your talking about or im throwin a brain fart...lol...They came like that with the 5.3 as well...but my covers fit perfect, has all the clearence they need...my covers just snap on to the fuel rails if that helps
And your set with the dirty dingo set up... I just did it this way to save my $$

This is the coil pack that my engine came with.

As far as the fuel rail covers, they hook to the fuel rail on the intake side but on the far side there are metal clips on the back that should press on to a long bolt or stud that is on the coil bracket. My truck didn't have them. For simplicity I just found this youtube video where some guy shows the back of the covers. Maybe that will help you understand what I'm saying. I'm bad at describing stuff.
