Default Stock 98-02 SS collector size?

Im thinking about going true duals with an xpipe on my 02 SS. What size are the stock manifold collector sizes? I guess my question is, will a 3 inch x pipe fit on stock manifold properly? Also does a 2.5 inch mid pipe sound any different then a 3 inch mid pipe?

FWIW, there is no difference in exhaust manifolds between an SS or a Z28 or a V8 Firebird, they all use the same manifold and Y-pipe within the same model year. Having said that, I don't remember off hand what the collector diameter is, but the '00-'02 manifolds use a 3-bolt triangle flange and the diameter is definitely not 3".

As for your second question, generally the larger the diameter of exhaust piping, the deeper and louder it will be - assuming all else is equal.
