Default I broke the front timing chain cover

I just installed a new SLP double timing chain and oil pump, and I didn't even get the bolts torqe to spec when the cover broke on me, what did I do wrong, I put the spacers be hind the oil pump like it said to do and used the original oil pump bolts, does the cover need modified, any one experience this problem before....

I unfortunately dont have a whole lot of experience with the timing covers, but i know that adding a double roller can take up,quite,a bit,of extra space. Did you verify thr cover would sit flush against the block before you started putting bolts in?
