Default LS1 Removal

I have a 2000 trans am. I am about the remove the engine and have the bottom end rebuilt. I do not have access to a lift, so my question is has anyone pulled on of these from the top? if so what all has to be done.
Any information is greatly appreciated

You don't necessarily need a lift to remove the engine from the bottom. Just jack the car up as high as you can (use wooden blocks if necessary) place jackstands down, put the jack underneath the k-member, disconnect/unbolt everything, and lower it down onto a dolly.

I pulled my LS1 from the top , 1999 Z28 , the car went up on blocks under the wheels with built in stops to prevent the car from rolling off . Can not be done with the trans on the engine . Pulled the trans , bellhousing ,clutch and flywheel. You have to remove the intake manifold for clearence and unless you pull the front bumper assembly , you will need a cherry picker with at leat 50"
of reach . The rad , fans , have to come out . Slow process , 2 guys , one on the cherry picker and one guiding the engine out.

there is a really good write up in the suspension forum. I'm in the process of doing the same thing myself
