Default Are pulley's really worth doing?

Thinking of maybe doing this and don't know much about pulley's as far as which ones to replace. Which ones are the best to do? Thanks

you replace the drive pulley (crank) to slow down the belt, to free up horsepower.

I reccomend running an overdrive alternator pulley, to prevent charging problems if you have any kind of aftermarket electronics.

I have heard mixed reviews on it. Some people have problems with them. ASP is suposed to be the best.

Get ASP. They are proven to work. Also look in March pulleys. They are supposed to be really good, and are fluid dampened.

My car has an ASP pulley. Really not much else done to it and I haven't seen another near-stock SS at our track posting times as good as mine. And I'm not that experienced at drag racing. Therefore I think the pulley is helping to free up a couple horsepower, definately haven't seen any negatives with it.

You need to buy two belts, one for the A/C and one for the main pulleys. The part numbers are on the asp site so you can get them locally. I'm not sure if the pulley comes with a bolt, I hope it does, mine should be here in a couple days. And you need a pulley puller to get the stock brick off

In my opinion get the ASP underdrive and as long as u don't have a big *** stereo system, you don't need the overdrive pulley. I have stock electronics and with the underdrive pulley still get good voltage.

Here is a pic of my stock pulley next to the ASP pulley.

Does not come with a bolt, and it is highly recommended that you do not use the original one. The old one will stretch out when you remove it. The chance does then exist that it will eventually work it's way out if you reuse. I recommend getting a new one before you even bother yanking out the pulley. You may want to ensure you have a good set of gear pullers to make your life a little easier. Other than that it is a breeze, just be patient and good luck!!

I installed my ASP w/o the overdrive alternator pulley, and now I have charging issues when I run the AC full blast, or at night when my headlights & fogs are on. I'm going to get the overdrive pulley and have the idle raised bit when I get it tuned. Other than that, it seems to be fine. The weather sucks for racing, and the last time I went to the track they didn't put any glue down. So I can't really say I picked up anything until it proves otherwise. I bought mine used for a good deal, and hope to see a slight gain from it when the weather cools off.

I'm looking at the asp pulley, everyone seems to have good results with them.

Go with the March pulley. Similar pricing, better design.

Depending on what mods you have already done, the money may be better spent on other mods. The hp per dollar gained isn't very good when compared to other inexpensive boltons like lids, cutout, port&polished tb, FTRA or SSRA. Put that money towards a TC if you haven't already gone to a higher stall in your A4.
